Shell Commands Quick Guide

1. cd (Change Directory): This command is used to navigate between different directories in the shell.

ይህ command ከአንድ directory ወደ ሌላው እንድትሄዱ ይረዳችዃል። You can move to a specific directory by typing cd directory_name.

for example ያላችሁበት directory ውስጥ ወዳለ directory ለመግባት ከፈለጋችሁ:

cd directory_name 

2. mkdir (Make Directory): ይህ command ደግሞ አዲስ directory/folder እንድትፈጥሩ ይረዳችዃል። Simply type

mkdir new_directory_name

3. rmdir (Remove Directory): ይህ directory የሚጠቅማችሁ ደግሞ empty/ ባዶ directory remove ለማረግ ነው። ነገር ግን folderኡ empty ካልሆነ it won't work.

non-empty directory delete ለማረግ additional option ማለትም attribute መጠቀም አለባችሁ

What happens when we press ⚡ power ⚡ button on a computer?


The computer performs the power-on-self-test also called #POST. This is done to make sure everything is working,
for example :- it check for a CPU, memory and HDD or Network ( to boot from )
::booting - means loading the Operating system to the memory (RAM)

- This is done by a program called a firmware (just a piece of software that comes with the motherboard).

- If something is missing the firmware will throw an error on our screen 💥

- If everything went fine it gives control to the operating system.

And the operating system starts by running its #kernel and the kernel also starts loading the applications and programs to memory

- A kernel is program (software) that manages and allocates the resources for applications(e.g: browsers, ms-office ...etc).

///That is why it is called the mother of all processes///

::process - is a running application (opened app)

::resources - are the hardware components of a computer that is needed to run an application i.e, CPU, RAM, GPU ....

Text Editors ተጠቃሚዎች በጽሑፍ ላይ የተመሰረቱ ፋይሎችን እንዲፈጥሩ፣ edit እንዲያደርጉ እና እንዲቆጣጠሩ የሚያስችል የሶፍትዌር ፕሮግራም ነው።

Text Editors በተለምዶ code, noscript, documents, notes እና ሌሎች ጽሑፎችን ለመፃፍ ያገለግላሉ ። እናም Nano text editor ከእነዚህ አንዱ ነው። There is no need to install it because it is pre-installed.

It is a command-line based editor that offers basic functionalities such as search and replace, syntax highlighting, and line numbering.

#Nano_text_editor ለመጠቀም ፡-

1. በNano ፋይል ለመክፈት፡-

nano filename.txt(file name)

2. To save changes and exit Nano:
'Ctrl + O'ን መጫን፣ ከዚያ 'Enter'ን መጫን፣ በመቀጠል 'Ctrl+X'።

3. በፋይሉ ውስጥ ቃል search ለማረግ፡-
'Ctrl + W' ን መጫን እና ለመፈለግ ቃሉን ማስገባት።

Overall, Nano is a lightweight text editor that is perfect for beginners and those who prefer a more straightforward editing experience on Linux systems.


4. To search for a specific word in the file:
Press Ctrl + W and enter the word to search for.

5. To go to a specific line number:
Press Ctrl + _, then enter the line number.
