教宗方濟各其所使用的教宗牧徽上方為耶穌會的會徽太陽、十字架及IHS，下方由左自右為一顆八角星及甘松花，IHS的意義為耶穌，而在羅馬時期由於天主教徒以魚作為其像徵符號，因此IHS在希臘文中也被作為漁夫使用至今[來源請求]，而漁夫在天主教中則指向第一位教宗伯多祿。因此可以得到擁有意大利血統且牧徽上有像徵漁夫的字樣或是羅馬字意義上的漁夫。
