The thing is, Monstrous regiment does not have a happy ending. Issues have resolved, but things stay the same. You can feel the anger underneath it all, in having to deal with things that don’t change because people are stupid. I wish I had a “and yet” and I’m sure there is.
But I’ll say one thing: writing shit like “and the day was a big great fish” and making you cry a little is not a small feature.
What a book.

I’ve tried with Dungeon Crawler Carl but I’m not sure in this day and age with something that opens with “oh yeah btw almost everybody in the world died”
Almost six years ago a friend of mine tried to convince me to play fire emblem three houses talking about one of the storylines pivoted around themes like fealty. He succeeded, and I proceeded to be utterly obsessed with that game and with Dimitri Fire emblem for the following three years.
It also made me obsessed with the theme, both in narratolgical AND kinky terms, and its depiction has been haunting me since, as well as I have been searching for it like a hound in every piece of media i decide to experience.
With a theme, usually comes its deconstruction, and how something that should be good and pure can become twisted and rotten and distorted, corrupted in its display and dynamic, if not in its core.
