Forkly: Making open-source software accessible

Hi everyone! I've recently gotten into the open-source world, driven by self-hosting. What's been surprising is that these are tools my friends and family likely wouldn't have used otherwise. Since they lack the technical skills for maintenance and updates, my homeserver became the bridge that made powerful open-source software accessible to them.

This inspired me to create Forkly, a platform that aims to solve this problem. Our goal is to host open-source productivity services and make them perfect for everyone.

Its strength is integration. I'll use the projects' own APIs to ensure that, regardless of which app you choose, the features work in harmony. Every combination you choose will be perfectly integrated.

With this project, I hope to do my part for the open-source ecosystem, giving it greater visibility among a wider audience and donating a portion of the revenue back to the projects we host.

We are currently building this platform. Our landing page explains the idea, but before moving on, I would love your opinion. Do you think the idea is valid? What features do you consider essential in an app like this?

Thanks for your feedback!

Orn - My systems programming language project, would love feedback!

**Hello everyone! I've been working on a systems programming language called Orn.**

Orn combines performance with clear error messages. It starts with C-like syntax and is evolving toward object-oriented programming.

🚀 **Key features:**

* **Fast single-pass compilation** with zero-copy reference design
* 🎯 **Rust-style error messages** with precise diagnostics and suggestions
* 🔒 **Strong static typing** that catches bugs at compile time
* 🏗️ **Complete pipeline**: lexer → parser → type checker → x86-64 assembly

**Working code examples:**

:: Structs
struct Rectangle {
width: int;
height: int;
};

Rectangle rect;
rect.width = 5;
rect.height = 3;
int area = rect.width * rect.height;
print(area); :: Outputs: 15

:: Functions & recursion
fn fibonacci(n: int) -> int {
n <= 1 ? {
return n;
};
return fibonacci(n-1) + fibonacci(n-2);
}

int result = fibonacci(10);
print(result); :: Outputs: 55

Everything compiles to native x86-64 assembly and actually runs! 🎉

**Coming next:** Classes, inheritance, and a module system.

📁 **Examples:** [https://github.com/Blopaa/Orn/tree/main/examples](https://github.com/Blopaa/Orn/tree/main/examples)

Would love your feedback and thoughts! 💬

Removing Intel Management Engine (Intel Mossad Engine)

Hello, I have been looking to install remove IME on my laptop for quite some time now, and would like some help with figuring out how to do so.

To start, is removing IME even an option for me? I have two preferred laptops I use due to their performance, repairability and overall reliability. I am wondering, can I remove IME and install libreboot instead? The first laptop is a dell precision m6800 with an i7-4940MX from 2014. The other of my preferred laptops is a dell precision m4800 with an i7-4800MQ cpu from 2015. Neither laptop has its original cpu, rather, both have been replaced with each other. The m6800 originally had the 4800MQ while the m4800 had the 4940MX. Ever since I swapped the CPU’s with each other, I have not observed and meaningful issues or problems with either laptop. I’m not sure if this is important to mention but I might as well.Are either of these laptops compatible with the installation of libreboot or just replacing IME with something else?

Next, how can I install the software? What tools do I need and where can I find them? I don’t really have a ton of technical knowledge so I don’t know where to find these tools but learning how to use them shouldn’t be too much of a hassle. For the files themselves, I’m not really perfect in software related tasks, so I’m wondering, how hard is the installation for someone with hobbyist/moderate and partial in depth knowledge?

Finally, what are the repercussions of a failed installation? I assume the laptop will be unusable, so, will the effort be worth the risk?

In addition to the previous question, is there a way for me to sort of remove limiters on the cpu? Like would I be able to change minimum clock speed? (Assuming I have a cooling solution that can keep up) Would I be able to somehow use a 16gb ddr3l stick of ram in one of the slots to get 40gb of ram? (Yes I know the numbers are wonky, but I’ve done a ton of research and have found out that some dell laptops can use 16gb ddr3l sticks while those like my own dell precision can’t. If 40gb of ram works, I’ll begin to do further research into if I can get 64gb of ram working on the laptops, however, at the moment, I can only find semi reputable 16gb sticks for 100-200$ so I would like to avoid spending a ton of money on something that might fail.

I can provide extra info about the laptops if need be but I can’t think of anything else to add at the moment. Please forgive me if I have missed something.

My open source project it TTS of academic papers

Hey everyone 👋

I’ve been hacking on a small project that turns academic papers into audio files. My motivation was that most existing tools use low-quality/free TTS voices that sound worse than Google Translate. So I decided to build one that actually uses Google Translate voices.

The core functionality is already working — you can feed in a paper and get an audio output. I also put together a Dockerfile and a Podman file, so it’s easy to set up and run.

That said, I don’t have much time to take it further. The UI could use improvement, and there’s definitely room for new features. If anyone’s interested in contributing, testing, or even taking over as a maintainer, I’d love your input.

Thanks in advance! Any feedback or contributions are very welcome. 🙏

Update - I built FluidVoice (Renamed from Fluid) - an Open Source fully free insanely fast local AI dictation app - Whispr flow alternative for macOS - Never pay for voice to text!

Hi Everyone, creator of FluidVoice ( FLUID ) here. A lot of you suggested to change the name and I did :))

Last week (09/21/25 ), I made a rant about how dictation apps that charge subnoscriptions just for local AI processing - $12/ Month, $30,$40,$50 lifetime and launched FLUID here and it got viral with > 65,000 views, 1000+Downloads and 100s of likes, comments and shares. I did not expect that to happen!! I am grateful for you all and the feedback and keep them coming! I've talked to >20 of you personally to understand the problems and read through every single feature request and issues.

Again, It's totally free forever, and I have no plans to ever charge for it. No ads, no upsells. I just believe local tools should be accessible to everyone.

I fixed half of the issues which is plenty more than other paid apps out there :D, and released a new update with plenty of features that I hope you will like. Some of the even paid me to support this even though I never expected anything in return. This really means so much to me and here's the latest update with plenty of feature changes.

Version 1.3.2

\- Updated Parakeet v2 -> v3 \- Now supports 25+ Languages ( working on a whisper if needed for more language)

\- Automatic updates check support (menu bar - Click F -> check for updates )

\- Improved AI prompt for post processing (Reduced answering/ repetition)

\- Code changes for macOS 13.0 Compatibility

\- Press Esc to cancel recording

\- Fixed UI glitches with light system preference

\- Fixed issues and improved system integration

\- Local Debug Logging: Automatic file logging with rotation to help diagnose issues

\- Enhanced Global Shortcuts: Support for single-key or multi-key combinations

\- Press-and-Hold Recording Mode: Choose between click-to-start/stop or hold-to-record modes

\- Feedback menu to provide instant feedback in-app with optional debug logs added

\- Fixed model download issues and model crash issues.

Download the latest update from https://altic.dev/fluid

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Since I am building in public, I would appreciate your support if you can star the GitHub - https://github.com/altic-dev/Fluid-oss

There's definitely more bugs that you will run into ;) I will work with you personally to make it work, if you face any of that. Let's never pay for local AI, ever! I'm building this for the community and just getting started, so all input is welcome :)

$100 for Apple Developer Program is nothing if I can save at-least 1000 of you all $10/month. I want to build an app for everyone to get the premium experience without spending a penny. Go Open Source!

Feeling a bit emotional with the OpenSource community

I didn't realise how much help I would get when working on a project i've put out there.

Everyone nowadays especially wants something for something, and it's become really a transactional world.

I posted on here and a few other places like the r/monitoring sub about what I was working on as a side project for my team

I got a tremendous amount of feedback, help and support.

I've made friends on here and i've been able to geek out at night, which has given me a renewed purpose.

Learning about OSS Licensing was also fun lol.

I just didn't expect the amount of help I'd get on Discord, through here and it's making me a bit teary.

(Grown man here) So yeah, I love you guys !

Anyway, (sniffles) I've launched the new website today for PatchMon

I'm just really excited about the future of this project

Site: patchmon.net

GitHub: https://github.com/9technologygroup/patchmon.net

Discord: https://patchmon.net/discord

I've got lots of ideas and cool things have happened - i'm after advice really, how do I make the most out of this phase i'm going through and keep on top of it all?

Are people farming contributions with AI-generated PRs?

I've been contributing to Open Source for about a year now. I started out by translating docs into my native language, but over time I moved into broader contributions within the project and began climbing the membership ladder - something I'm really glad about.

Lately, though, I've noticed a strange pattern, especially when it comes to localization work:

* People request to work on issues in languages they clearly don't speak. In most cases, these accounts are brand new, often created within the last month.
* They insist on being assigned to the issue. Why? What's the deal with that assign?
* The resulting PR is usually AI-generated, from the denoscription down to the content. Guidelines are ignored, standards aren't followed, and it's pretty clear no real effort went into it.

It honestly feels like some kind of farming or grinding is going on, which makes me wonder: are people just doing this to inflate their GitHub profiles? Are some of these accounts not even real people?

Does anyone else use the outdated Lawnchair launcher?

There's just no way I'm alone on this, I must know if anyone else uses it too.

Version 1.2.0.1884 is the one I use, for example.

FFmate v2: open-source automation for FFmpeg with clustering support

We’ve been building FFmate for a while, and last week we released v2.0.

FFmate is an open-source automation layer for FFmpeg. It grew out of the need to replace fragile shell noscripts with something more reliable, cross-platform, API-first, and easier to configure.

With FFmate you get a job queue, REST API, watchfolders, presets, and webhooks. In v2 we added cluster support. Multiple instances can now share a Postgres queue, split tasks across nodes, and keep running even if one node fails.

I’m sharing this here because many of you have worked with FFmpeg in one form or another. You might find FFmate useful, or you may just have thoughts on how we approached it.
Either way, feedback and contributions are welcome.

Looking for AI/ML projects that need documentation help (especially beginner guides)

I've been using various open source AI tools for the past year and want to give back to the community. My coding skills are decent but not amazing, so I'm focusing on documentation and user experience contributions.

Recently helped improve docs for transformer lab and a few other projects. There's such a huge gap between "here's the github repo" and "here's how to actually use this thing" for most AI tools.

I'm particularly interested in projects that:

Need better getting started guides
Want help with example notebooks or tutorials
Could use clearer installation instructions
Need user-friendly explanations of technical concepts

My background is technical writing and I've been working with local AI setups, so I understand both the user experience side and the technical challenges.

If you maintain an AI/ML project and think documentation help would be valuable, drop a comment or send me a message. I'm looking to contribute to 2-3 projects consistently rather than doing one-off contributions.

Also happy to hear from other contributors about which projects you've found most welcoming to documentation improvements. The AI space moves so fast that docs often lag behind features.

How do you keep momentum alive in open-source projects with friends?

I’ve been hacking on an open-source idea with a friend. The initial energy is always super high, but keeping that momentum going over the long run is where it gets tricky.

What’s worked for you when it comes to keeping open-source projects alive (especially side projects)? Weekly syncs? Clear roadmaps? Or just letting it flow naturally?

Curious to hear what’s worked for other maintainers here 🙏

I made a program that converts all your images in your projects to webp and updates the code

I made a program that converts all your images in your projects to webp and updates the code

basically I got sick of having to copy and convert images using websites or tools I wanted something that I can just run in the terminal and it converts all images and updates the entire code with the new images, you can also mass delete the old images if you want that option, or exclude specific images.

it made most of the projects I worked on load faster I know most ppl hate webp but its very good for websites I assume most of you know already.

I will keep working on it the source code is here https://github.com/SeifEldin15/images-to-webp or you can install it and run it as an npm package

npm install -g webp-image-converter

webp-converter

if you think more features can be added or something can be changed lmk, I have no idea if there's an option out there that does this already, hope you guys find it useful

Any Stable Linux Smartphone OS?

I just watched some reviews of Mobian and Ubuntu touch. As a user who has strong dislike for android, should I invest in having a "Linux" smartphone? I saw Mobian and Ubuntu touch are still unstable and lack features. Should I just install a full desktop Linux on a tab, and forget al about these? (Note: suggest only fully Open Source Linux smartphone OS, which has Open Source app development kit)
