The USA promotes the idea of a permanent military presence in the Baltics
After America's withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Pentagon intends to change the plans for the US military presence abroad, and in this regard, the idea of making a permanent American military presence in the Baltic countries began to be actively promoted. In particular, such an appeal was made by John R. Denny, professor at the Institute for Strategic Studies at the US Army War College and an expert on the influential Atlantic Council. His article fell into the category of "main materials" Defense News.
Maintaining only intermittent US ground forces in the Baltics, especially when a more permanent US presence in neighboring Poland is being formed, sends the wrong message at the wrong time to NATO's most vulnerable allies and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The hasty, chaotic withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan has led some American allies in Europe to question Washington's commitment to NATO, and now only a permanent US military presence in each of the Baltic states can best convince allies that Washington is supporting them.
This is especially true today in Lithuania, which is literally and figuratively at the forefront of Western efforts against Russian and Chinese authoritarianism. Sandwiched between the Baltic Sea, neighboring Belarus, and Russian territory of Kaliningrad - the most militarized piece of land in Europe - this relatively small ally faces formidable threats.
Over the past few years, Russia has significantly increased the number of offensive conventional and nuclear weapons in its Kaliningrad exclave, which borders Lithuania for about 185 miles [300 km]. The recently concluded Zapad military exercise involved up to 200,000 Russian and Belarusian soldiers, sailors and pilots, as well as hundreds of tanks and artillery pieces that first defended themselves in an imaginary invasion and then imitated a counterattack on Lithuanian (and Polish) territory. It is alarming that the exercise could lead to a permanent Russian military presence in Belarus.
China imposed a trade embargo against Lithuania and recalled its ambassador from Vilnius. These moves were in response to Lithuania's seemingly harmless decision to allow Taiwan to open a diplomatic mission in Vilnius.
In addition, Lithuania has been subject to extensive cyberattacks attributed to both Russia and China.
A small but permanent US presence in Lithuania will strengthen the security of the US and its allies in northeastern Europe in three ways. First, it will clearly indicate to allies and adversaries that Lithuania's sovereignty and territorial integrity are vital American interests. Secondly, it can be used to fill gaps in Lithuania's defense capabilities today, especially with regard to anti-tank, artillery, UAV and electronic warfare. Finally, it will give Vilnius the confidence to invest more in advanced offensive electronic warfare and information operations, which will enable it to better respond to the most likely attacks from Russia and China.
The main objections to a long-term US presence are that it could somehow violate the terms of the 1997 NATO-Russia agreement, or it could intimidate Putin, which would generate mounting backlash. Based on a carefully calibrated presence that fits into NATO's already sustained commitment to the region, these fears are exaggerated when compared to the broad security benefits.
For example, as part of NATO's Forward Presence Initiative, Germany has since 2017 led a multinational combat group of about 1,100 troops in Lithuania.

🇷🇸🇽🇰 Serbian President Vucic said that the army would react if the Serbian people were persecuted by Albania. If NATO does not respond within 24 hours. "Serbia will use force"
He also added that Rosu (KLA) scared the people with safari vehicles in Jarinje.
•"In the event of a pogrom, we wait 24 hours for NATO to react, otherwise Serbia will react on its own" - Vucic
•Speaking on TV tonight, the Serbian leader explained that Belgrade is not sending troops into Kosovo because it is contrary to the Kumanov Accords and is simply trying to keep the peace. Until the pogrom began, the president stated, and Belgrade not only closely monitors the situation, but also supplies the Serbian people in Kosovo.
•Vucic noted that the visit of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation Alexander Botan-Kharchenko at the Yarinje checkpoint shows Russia's support for the territorial integrity of Serbia.
•The Serbian leader drew special attention to the hypocrisy of the West, which turned a blind eye to sending special forces with armored vehicles to administrative border crossings - but was outraged when Serbia redeployed troops on its territory or took the plane into the air.
•“Seven days in the West were not excited, but they were excited when Serbia showed that it would not allow a pogrom against its population. They thought I was joking, ”said Vucic.

Raider-X super high-speed reconnaissance helicopter for the US Army
Raider-X will be a larger and more advanced version of the current Sikorsky S-97 Raider.
The new rotorcraft will retain the basic technical solutions of the earlier modification. Representatives of the developer's company assure that their helicopter will be able to reach speeds of up to 205 knots, using the same General Electric T901 engine as the Bell 360.
The evolutionary descendant of the S-97 will have a main rotor diameter of 11.9 meters, and the Raider X will weigh approximately 6,350 kg. The new helicopter has a coaxial main rotor made of heavy-duty materials and one push rotor at the rear.
The Raider-X's streamlined composite fuselage is wide enough to accommodate crew members side-by-side, and just behind the cockpit is a large weapons compartment that can accommodate ample people and weapons.

Defense News: US Air Force intends to use solar energy produced in space
This project was named Space Solar Power Incremental Demonstrations and Research (SSPIDR).
The American edition of Defense News writes that the US military intends to collect solar energy in space and transfer it to its military bases. Journalists note that the interest in using the energy of the sun has arisen due to the excessive consumption of electricity to provide American military bases.
“The US Army cannot build a solar array every time it opens a base in remote locations, and fossil fuels can be costly and difficult to transport. What the army needs is a source of energy that it can use from anywhere on Earth with limited infrastructure, ”
- Russian journalists are quoting their American colleagues from Defense News.
To achieve a solution to the problem, the US Air Force intends to accumulate all the energy that the solar cells of American satellites collect, and then send it to Earth.
This project was named Space Solar Power Incremental Demonstrations and Research (SSPIDR). Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and Northrop Grumman will be involved in this development. It is reported that in order to transmit solar energy to Earth, it will need to be exported into radio frequency radiation. Experts say that the main difficulty in the implementation of this plan is a significant reduction in the size and weight of the equipment that must be sent into space.
"To make this possible, AFRL wants to use foldable solar panels that can be condensed into a relatively small payload for launch and then deployed on site in orbit."
- said in the publication of Defense News.
The plans of the developers include the production of such a solar panel by 2024. The launch of the equipment into orbit is planned for early 2025.

The US Air Force has selected the North American branch of the British company Rolls-Royce to supply F130 turbofan engines to modernize its fleet of strategic bombers Boeing B-52Н Stratofortress ("Stratospheric Fortress"), writes the American edition of Air Force Magazine.
The program, which has dragged on for decades, is an important step in the upgrade of the US Air Force bombers. Now the B-52H will be in service until 2050, that is, until the time when they are finally replaced by the ultra-modern "invisible" Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider.
Rolls-Royce's new contract with the US Air Force is estimated at about $ 500.9 million and is expected to last for the next six years, but if all options are exercised, then its value could exceed $ 2.6 billion. According to the Pentagon, the contract provides for the supply of 608 engines as well as spare powertrains, ancillary equipment and commercial engineering data, in particular maintenance, to be used by the B-52H bomber fleet.
Rolls-Royce is confident that the F130 engines will not need to be completely replaced until the end of the B-52H bomber's service, but chances are the Air Force will want to purchase parts over time. Recall that the F130 engine from Rolls-Royce bypassed the CF34-10 power units from General Electric (USA) and PW800 from Pratt and Whitney (Canada) in the competition.

Serbian army two kilometers from the Yarinje border crossing, Kosovo
Kosovo. The Serbian Defense Minister and Chief of General Staff, together with the Russian ambassador and military attaché, examined the units of the Serbian army near Kosovo. The day before, the head of the Serbian Foreign Ministry discussed the situation here with Lavrov at the UN.
As a result, the Russian embassy stated that the Serbian leadership in the new aggravation in the north of Kosovo is acting responsibly, and the tension is caused by the steps of the Kosovo Albanian authorities in Pristina.
Serbian President Vucic phoned the NATO Secretary General and told him that the predominantly Serb-populated north of Kosovo was "occupied" by Interior Ministry units from Pristina. Stoltenberg also held talks with the leader of the self-proclaimed Kosovo.
