The beauty of life lies in it’s tragedy,
But a breath between a laugh and a cry.
Some days the cheeks hurt from smiling,
Other days the tears never dry.
How beautiful is the irony,
That in both moments of joy and grief,
It is the water that escapes the eyes,
That becomes the foretoken of relief.
Calmness and serenity on the faces,
Is only but an illusion and deceit,
The warrior hearts of all creation,
Suffer detested days of defeat.
Would that you stopped your loathing,
And became content with your decree.
How astonishing is such a servant,
Who has set his heart free.
So it no longer struggles in a battle,
Resisting such a fate that is divine,
His heart harbors nary any discontent,
Whether sitting in shade or in shine.
When it puts down its weapons,
And surrenders in humility and defeat,
Only then can it be considered a warrior,
Of the ranks of the foremost and elite.
He who surrenders is the victor,
A most peculiar war indeed,
Its strategy eluded most mankind,
So be you one to heed…
But a breath between a laugh and a cry.
Some days the cheeks hurt from smiling,
Other days the tears never dry.
How beautiful is the irony,

Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali said in ‘Lata’if al-Ma’arif’ (p. 276):
“Winter is the best season for the believer because…Allah strengthens his practice in it by making worship easy for him. This is because in winter, the believer can fast during the day with ease without suffering from hunger and thirst. The days are short and cold, and he therefore doesn’t feel the hardship of fasting…
As for praying at night in the winter due to its long nights, one can have his share of sleep and then get up to pray afterwards and recite all that he usually recites of the Qur’an while he has had enough sleep. So, he can combine between the sleep that he needs and the usual amount of recitation of the Qur’an that he completes in a day. So, he fulfills the interests of both his religion and the comfort of his body…
And it was narrated that Ibn Mas’ud said: “Welcome to winter! Blessings descend in it, its nights are long to pray in, and its days are short to fast in.” It is also narrated from him and al-Hasan: “Winter is a wonderful time for the believer. Its nights are long to pray in, and its days are short to fast in.” When it was winter time, ‘Ubayd bin ‘Umayr would say: “O people of the Qur’an! Your nights are now long for you to recite in. So, recite! Your days are now short for you to fast in. So, fast! Night prayer in the winter equals fasting during the day in the summer.” This is why Mu’adh wept on his deathbed and said: “I weep because I will miss the thirst I felt when I fasted, praying at night during the winter, and sitting knee to knee with the scholars during the gatherings of knowledge.””

When Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) tested Shaykh Musa (حفظه الله تعالى) with trials weeks ago, his joyous and upbeat demeanor did not falter for a second, rather it increased. And when advised to step back from speaking with others, he firmly refused, asking ALL who reach out to speak with him be sent his way, Allahumma barek Lahu.
His own trials only strengthened his resolve to help others. Anytime Allah resolved a conflict through him, he rejoiced, celebrating and weeping in joy.
When we spoke to the Shaykh during this health crisis, may Allah protect him, he did not complain once. Though his voice bore the weight of fatigue, he spoke with unwavering strength, constantly praising Allah.
Trials reveal true character, so what do we say of someone whose character only grew more radiant through them? May Allah protect him, preserve him, grant him full Shifaa' and a long life filled with good deeds.
As always, please reach out to the Shaykh’s Instagram for any assistance or questions, or call, InshaAllah.

“Know my son, that days consists of hours and hours are made of the breaths you take. Every breath is a treasure chest, so beware of letting a breath pass by with no benefit. You do not want to find an empty treasure chest on the Day of Judgement and regret.”
