Google is farming ad revenue by not allowing you to install an ad-blocker on Chrome.

I'm not sure if it occured to anybody else. When using any Google app on the phone, the interface opens links using it's integrated Chrome browser. The browser that is installed as a system app.

This browser doesn't allow extensions and has a very 'bad' ad blocker, which of course, doesn't block any of Google's ads.

It makes sense Google would like to farm ad revenue and force users who prefer using an adblocker to see them.

On an unrooted device, it is impossible to change this setting, twe...

Ongoing List of Google Assistant Integrated Headphones/Earbuds

I've been in the market for a pair of headphones and made having Google Assistant integration (i.e. press and hold to talk to the assistant and proactive notifications in the headphones) a must. The problem is that it's hard to find a solid list of all our current options especially since some of the ones I've found have Google Assistant supported (i.e. long press like on the phone without notification reading features) headphones mixed with the integrated ones. So I decided to attempt to make a...

So you like Nova. What does it has that others can't match yet?

To me, it's icons. I always try a lot of different launchers, but every single time I end coming back to Nova thanks to the way it treats icons. This launcher has its way to get them *right*, 90% of the time: the adaptative icons look as they were meant to be round for some reason, the normalization keeps every ones size in check, the grid configuration allows me to pack the with just the right density, and having a ["floaty" dock](https://i.imgur.com/CTIPcDO.jpg) makes all look even better.

Andronix - Desktop Linux no root needed, works on any 5.1 and up Android device.

For anyone who's used Linux on DeX and is upset they canceled it, I found an excellent replacement on the play store called Andronix! Let's you install a bunch of different distro's through termux. I've been using it the past few days now and I'm very happy with it! Running Debian 10 on my Note 9 with the dex pad connected to a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers.

Here's a link to my desktop! [https://preview.redd.it/uszfpa8myv141.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=bbc58d028578e0be9324070e...

Those who use OPPO or Realme phones, what are the limitations of ColorOS that actually affect you?

ColorOS gets a lot of flack by Android people for looking and acting different to Stock Android. Is there anything different in terms of what it can't do compared to stock Android, or do people dislike it just because it looks different?...

What kind of "specialized" phones would you make?

I was thinking about how before the global smartphone takeover, phones used to have some insane variety. Now with folding screens on the way I feel like we could see cool varied smartphones coming back and I was thinking about what sorts of designs we could see in the future.

Right now all companies seem to have mostly converged on "all rounder" phones. Pixel 3a was a glimmer of possibility for me: here we have a phone that has lower end specs but justifies its price by specialising with camer...

PSA: Samsung Galaxy Note10+ 256GB Unlocked (US version with warranty) at Microsoft Ebay store - $699 (Lowest ever - probably pricing error)

I'm not sure if direct links are allowed but here is the Microsoft store link - [https://www.ebay.com/str/microsoftstoreoutletusa](https://www.ebay.com/str/microsoftstoreoutletusa)

Link to product **(multiple colors available search the store)** - https://m.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Galaxy-Note10-Black-256GB-US-Model-Unlocked/283589253128

Does not come with Galaxy buds like the black friday offer but that was priced at $899.

Weirdly, both Note 10 and Note 9 are priced higher than Note10+.

Smartphones after 6+ years and other things that manufacturers don't like people to know

One weekend ago I wanted to test some specific custom phone ROMs out there but in the first stage I was prepared to do (potentially more destructive) tests only on the oldest Android phone I still have - a Samsung Note 3 N9005 from 2013.

So I went ahead and updated it to the latest Samsung stock (Android 5.0 from 2015 - before Samsung switched to 3 years of security updates for the flagships, old stuff but it was needed to be certain the phone has the latest baseband/modem and other separate fi...

does nobody care about microphone specs?! which phones have the best internal mic and how do i find this information?

I use my phone to record live music footage more than I use it for anything else. Having a good microphone is crucial but it seems like most manufacturers don't even bother listing microphone specs. Video from my LG G6 sounds great (but looks awful😬) and the spec sheet lists this:

HD Audio Recorder 24bit / 192KHz FLAC
Hi-Fi Record with high AOP Mic Up to 132dB

Is there any kind of resource that will help me find this information for other phones and compare them? I'm not that interested in br...

Lawnchair V2 vs Nova

I've used Nova Prime for over a year now and like it, but I've heard good things about Lawnchair and now that it's available on the Play Store, I'm considering switching.

This is a thread to compare the two launchers.

Which do you prefer and why?...
