I am not a fan of AR but I absolutely love Google Lens!

I of course speak from a personal point of view, but I am not a big fan of AR or VR, to me pretty much all AR or VR apps are useless and I don't really like how much effort Google and Apple are putting into making really what I feel like useless apps that will be used once and never again by most. I've tried a few measuring apps, but when it's anything serious I always use a physical measuring tape. I've also tried some pointless "place this cute creature on the table" apps and uninstalled them ...

Chrome and current state of scrolling

I feel strongly that Google needs to really improve scrolling on Chrome. On my current Pixel 4 XL on JavaScript heavy sites, especially on sites with embedded videos or ads, touch scrolling stutters way too much. As an example, go to engadget.com and scroll to the bottom. When you get to the embedded video at the bottom, Chrome starts to stutter and it looks especially bad on a 90hz display. Even when I swipe from the home screen to go left to the Google feed, you can see it scroll stuttering wh...

Do Android versions even matter anymore?

To be honest as an Android user, it just seems like every year and every update is just refinements nothing really groundbreaking and breath taking anymore

Like you could legit use a Nougat phone right now in almost 2020 and you probably wouldn't miss much except dark mode but there's fixes for that

Does anyone else feel this way? Do Android updates matter anymore to yall?...

What can do on an $800 Android that you can't on an $80 Android?

Obviously, the $800 device will have a better screen more memory better and/more camera (s) and a faster processor. Maybe it'll even have a finger print scanner or wireless charging or lack of a headphone jack. But those are all improvements on the same functionality in an $80 Android. What things can you do on a premium device that you can't on a basic one or is Android pretty much the same and just faster or newer on better devices?...

I feel like Android 10 UI has kind of taken a step backwords

I just upgraded from an LG v30 on Android 9 to Samsung s10e that was updated to Android 10. I'm aggressively demanding for a clean and minimal interface and there are so many little things added at every step. I don't know if this is an Android 10 or a one UI thing but I don't need these settings constantly present for every single fucking notification. I just wish we could have the granular control that Android is known for and I feel like every update it slowly degrades to a more "user friend...

Chrome tab animation, did not see this before?

Is this new? Link down below, stumbled upon it by accident. When the tabs view is open, just scrool down a few more times and it happens ;)

As a consumer, why should I care about the "Too grossing" section in the play store?

The top grossing section shows apps based on their revenue. What benefit is that to the customer? Why would I purposefully seek out apps that will drain more of my money? Most of the games in that section are IAP-ladden F2P games the higher they are on that list, the more money hungry they are.

For material/RL products it might make sense to buy the top selling stuff. But for apps, revenue does not correlate to how popular it is or how useful it is.

Most of the apps I might install fall under ...

Replaced S8 battery and ended up losing water resistance.

My 2.5 yr old S8's battery was aging and it showed as the battery level consistently dropped from ~20% to 0% in seconds. So I decided to get it replaced at an official samsung service center.

Before handing over the phone, I was told that they'd have to do a water resistance test after replacing the battery which could result in the phone being factory reset. I was ok with it.

Fast forward the the next day and they tell me that the battery was replaced but the device was failing the water resi...

Wikipedia and other Wikimedia wikis has dropped connections for older Android devices

If you visit Wikipedia on a pre-Kitkat (4.4) device you will get a security warning and on January 1st 2020 you will no longer be able to connect at all. [There is] (https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/HTTPS/Browser_Recommendations) a page explaining what is happening to older devices and it is because older Android versions don’t support [TLS 1.2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_Layer_Security). This issue is not limited to Wikipedia, a lot of websites will stop working when [TLS 1.1 a...

My S7 edge just exploded on me

While there is no damage physically done to me, I am more concerned about me no longer having a phone. I am a college student with little to no money to pay for a new phone. I have had this phone for years, so, naturally, the manufacture warranty is gone on it.

I just had someone from Samsung tell me to "take it to a repair center". Yeah, Ill just take my exploded phone to a repair shop, I'm sure they'll have it fixed right up. And there will be a nice $500 bill with having to replace the back...
