CES 2020 Megathread

CES is once again upon us, and I thought that with all the announcements a single thread to keep track of them would be nice.

This will be updated daily, but do keep in mind that since I'm Australian, I will be needing sleep. Anything I miss will be updated in the morning.

[LG Users/Ex-users] Why do you use/buy LG phones?

Not a rant or anything, just curious on other people's thoughts.

I've been an LG user since the G2 in 2018, coming from my last Windows Phone and a Galaxy S6 edge, then bought the V20, and have since move to the V30.

I bought mine because I fell in live with the V20's design, and same when the V30 came out. I've been a little tuened off with the stupid "Thinq" moniker, but aside from that I love LG phones myself,

But I do acknowledge they have a lot of wierd quirks and really bad software u...

Pixel devices seem to get security patches later than Samsung’s flagships - even US unlocked.

As of November, I’ve noticed a very different Samsung (when it comes to updating their flagships S10’s ).

This Samsung updates their S10’s to the latest security updates. Sometimes even before Pixels.

The S7 (released 6 months before Pixel XL ) will get a later-last security patch than the OG Pixel!

I like this Samsung, and will probably be buying another Samsung S-line phone in a couple years - if the S10 continues to get (as) timely updates as now.

If not, I’ll get a OnePlus (if they add ...

Backup while charging option in Google photos

In the root directory at this path - data/data/com.google.android.apps.photos/shared_prefs
There is a file named photos.backup.backup_prefs.xml
Open it and there is a line which read as -- <boolean name="backup_prefs_backup_only_when_charging" value="false" />
I just changed false to true and in the photos app there is a option for backup while charging in Backup and sync setting.

The fall of pop-up cameras and the rise of punch holes?

It seems that in 2020, even Chinese manufacturers are shifting towards putting a punch hole in their phones. This is evident in the Reno 3 / Pro, where the first versions (Reno, Reno 10x Zoom, Reno 2, Reno 2z) all came with a pizza slice style pop up, but has since been replaced with a punch-hole display on the third generation. Besides that is the K20 Pro, going from an all-screen design to also a punch hole like the S10+ on the K30. Even the rumored OnePlus 8 and Pixel 4a phones have renders w...
