Realme : Not so developer friendly brand and namesake open source OPPO devices.

I recently bought a realme XT because it had an unlocked bootloader and it has been a nightmare to work with this device because of the following reasons.

Fingerprint fiasco : They linked fingerprint with the widevine L1 so that when someone unlocks their bootloader, the widevine level changes and fingerprint stops working. This is done intentionally and they recently fixed it with the A16 update mostly due to bad PR. They are intentionally trying to push the idea that unlocked devices are inse...

Regarding Sprint's $50 deal to fix the screen of a dropped Galaxy

They wont take your phone if the back glass is cracked. Dont waste an hour of your life like I did.

Edit for clarity: they wont touch your phone if the back is cracked...

It's 2020. What happened to Gboard's "federated learning"?

It's 2020 and Gboard's swiping is still awful. That is, it was amazing when it was Google Keyboard, and then it just went downhill from there.

A while back, there was some A/B testing going on, on a feature that supposedly fixed the swipe accuracy. But months have passed already, and things are still awful. The fabled bordered center suggestion never appeared.

It definitely did exist, but everyone has forgotten about this feature: https://www.google.com/search?q=gboard+federated+learning+site:...

I feel like Qualcomm is the only company that actually knows how to make a mobile SoC

Mediatek phones are just so easy to brick when you try to root them. Theres no proper custom ROM support for it and Gcam is poorly optimized to the point where you just want to use the stock camera app. Also developers just can't make properly optimized apps for anything that isn't Snapdragon. Look up the Redmi Note 8 Pro trying to emulate Wii games like Super Mario Galaxy and you'll notice that even though it beats the 730 and 835 in Antutu it will perform like a 670 on the dolphin emulator.

r/Android Community Feedback Poll Results

# What is this?

We ran a [community feedback poll](https://old.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/e2zdht/randroid_community_feedback_poll/) for around 6 weeks (the thread was stickied for the first 4 weeks). We got around 930 responses. These are the results.

Before we start, though -- a big thanks to all who participated, be it in the feedback threads from which the poll was built, or the vote itself.

Google might be removing satellite view from maps.

It just asked me if I use satellite view in maps with the options. Yes, No, Not Today. Sadly couldn't take a screenshot. Sorry about the sensational noscript but otherwise the bots will flag this as tech support....

YSK: Apps that share your info/activities with Facebook

One of my friends shared a link today to a Facebook Settings page called '**Off-Facebook Activity**.' I was curious to find out what apps share stats & user info/activities with Facebook knowing that I have been using 'Simple Pro' for over 2 years and don't have the Facebook app installed on my phone.

To my surprise, I found couple apps that have been sharing my activities with Facebook like the Alarm Clock app **Alarmy Pro (WTF?), LinkedIn app, McDonald's app, MX Player Pro** and many more...

Something interesting about the Shield Controller connected to the phone

So I just tried to connect my Shield Controller to my Pixel 4 through a USB cable and found out some interesting things:

- the headphone jack doesn't work (you can't listen to the game's soundtrack, music nor audiobooks)

- the home button does bring you back to the home screen, but it can't enable multitasking

- the microphone button actually works!:
- press it once to open the Google search bar or search things on your currently open app (does work with Reddit, for example!)
- press it...

One Today by Google is Shutting Down

Just got this disappointing e-mail from the [Google One Today](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.onetoday) team... if you're not familiar with the app it highlighted a different charity each day and let you donate $1 towards their cause.

Hello,
We have an important update to share with you.

We launched Google One Today seven years ago to help people donate to causes they care about. In the last few years, we have seen donors choose other products to fun...
