I miss android - a few thoughts from a recent defector

Turns out I was wrong about some things and misspoke.

- The flash function is hidden beneath some bad UI but I'm very glad that was brought to my attention.

- The alarm is not tied to the media but it is for some reason tied to the ringer. Why you can't set a single alarm volume is beyond me.

If you're thinking about switching to iPhone, give this a quick read.

- Coming from years of android usage, having an iphone feels like having a chromebook or an ipad for a laptop instead of...

If ARM had a BIOS equivalent, as x86 does on PC, could the Android updates situation be improved?

From the many posts I've seen about "Why is Android so terrible at updates?", the two key takeaways I've gotten are that this is because:

1) Linux doesn't have a stable driver API, and because its always changing, this can break drivers and OEMs simply don't wanna spend the resources on supporting these drivers (I'm on Linus's side of the argument, but it seems very unlikely OEMs like Qualcomm would ever open source their drivers)

2) This situation is made worse by the fact that ARM has no har...

New Galaxy S20+ 5G benchmark running an Exynos 990. The scores don't seem so bad although the multi-core score is somewhat low compared to the 865.

Samsung legit gives OnePlus a run for its money, and beats it with ease, apart from low light conditions. - S10 Lite vs 7T Camera Comparison

Video Link - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgCGPVBRjZA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgCGPVBRjZA)

TLDR - The S10 Lite is priced nearly as much as the OnePlus 7T, but definitely out performs it in the camera segment in daylight. For lowlight, OnePlus wins, but that's mainly due to the difference in aperture....

I've been using a used, 1st gen. Pixel XL with Google Fi for the last six weeks. Here are my thoughts.

I don't know if any of you *need* or even **want** this but I figure I could either help people make a decision on purchasing three year old phones and/or using Google Fi's service.

First, I'll say that I have been an Android user since my first smartphone, an HTC Evo Shift I got in 2011 (I just *had* to have a typing keyboard) so I'm very familiar with the UI and overall Android experience. I've owned phones that run the gamut of quality, from the newly released Nexus 5 to the cheapest nondesc...

WhatsApps "security"

https://telegra.ph/Why-Using-WhatsApp-Is-Dangerous-01-30-4

This is the reason why I am wondering about people defending, or suggesting to use WhatsApp, when it comes to the best/most secure messenger. Main reason being end-to-end-encryption. These facts, clearly show that Whatsapps end-to-end encryption isn't secure at all....

My Nokia 7.1 just got bricked by an update that i chose to install this morning.

I've been using android for years, and this had never happened before. I installed the update and then my phone booted on an error message saying data was corrupted and i should retry to boot or factory reset. After, a few hours of trying to fix this without losing all of my files I gave in and reseted it, only for it to get stuck on download mode.

To make matters worse, my warranty expired 3 days ago so i now have to pay 100 bucks to see if Nokia can repair it. I'm not asking for a fix, i'm ...

Anyone else not really feeling any of these new phones?

Having bought a used LG V30+ a month ago for $100 after selling my BlackBerry KeyTwo I just started looking at T-Mobile to see about upgrading to something new and better because I got the "itch" but...shit...nothing I really see seems *worth it* in any useful fashion.

Like, the Note 10 I can get for $0 down and $35 a month and I know that's not a bad deal, it's a great phone with a ton of features and upgrades to my V30 but...meh...like whats it REALLY do that's THAT much better? I'm coming u...
