What do you think will be next step in smartphone cameras?

I think it will be to keep making the pixels bigger to compete with the best point-and-shoots, although this will be a tough call because it will make a higher thickness. Currently, the high-MP tricks aren't that great ($20U is only comparable to the $20+ in normal scenes) so maybe we'll be back to 12 or even 16 megapixel sensors. Also, something to improve on is bokeh quality. I've noticed that when you look close, it's a bunch of rings instead of a perfect circle or Gaussian distribution, both...

Newton Mail shutting down (again) ...alternatives

It seems like we only just got saved and Newton Mail was back form the ashes, and now it is about to be killed off again. Myself and every person i have recommended it to who uses it is gutted ....and it defies logic how something so good can be killed off, twice, with a paying user base.

So, time to start this conversation again ... alternatives?

Requirements would be:

\- simple clean interface
\- accompanying desktop app for Mac/Windows (mac in my case)
\- configurable swipe gestures...

Let's discuss the chances of google getting a license to work with huawei again.

I'm curious to what all android users here think of this. People have been able to get some services and apps back on huawei devices, but it stays crippled without official support. For example no one was able to enable "voice match".

However google has now officially applied for a license since around a week ago. What do you guys think are the chances of this being approved? Microsoft already got a license to deal with huawei.

[Discussion] How often do you change your phones? Does changing less often really save you money?

I've been in the same 2 year cycle of changing my phone for a while but I realized, but I don't think it made a big difference.

Assuming these are Samsung flagship phones starting from 2018 & the S9, and I know they’re huge generalizations here (but close enough after some googling) , but bear with me (I haven't factored carrier deals, contracts, discounts, buying used etc. at all) ;

Buying every 2 years : -$900 (S9) +$300 (trade in/sell used) -$1300 (S20) = -$1900

Buying every ...

What theming is available now for Android?

When I first started using Android devices back in the day, we had launchers that could be themed, lock screens like widgetlocker that could also be changed to whatever you desired. Then we had clock/weather themes like Beautiful Weather and Fancy Widget. KWGT seems to be the only thing that we can use now. Are there any other, better alternatices, or is the personalization game dead on Android?...

A touch screen panel to install on my screen to play better the Android games.

Hello to everyone.

Recently I like very much to enjoy with this game for android :

[https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tfgco.games.sports.free.tennis.clash&hl=it](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tfgco.games.sports.free.tennis.clash&hl=it)

what I don't like of this game is that I find uncomfortable to play on my phone because the little screen and the position that the head should assume to play well. So I've got an idea : what about to install the game on my P...

Why modern phones need so much ram - Video/Image processing

tl;dr; It is because of video/image processing. LPDDR ram is shared across CPU and GPU. It is very fast. Storage (UFS) is very slow. Modern images/videos are huge. People hate slowness / unresponsiveness.

----

I'm a Software Engineer and a lot of discussions are coming around with, "Why does xx Android phone need yy ram! This is much more than my PC!"

The answer is that it has a lot to do with image and video processing and storing these buffers in memory where latency is significantly lower,...
