I made a free app that lets you trace your steps without GPS or an Internet connection

The app uses your Android phones magnetometer and step counter to draw an accurate map of your movement.

The app converts data from the magnetometer to polar coordinates so the app understands where the user is facing and uses your phones step counter to tell the app when to draw and for how long. The UI is extremely basic, consisting of a black background your line, total steps, compass info, and two buttons. One to restart the line and the other for instructions. Power usage is extremely mini...

Toggling dark mode in ANY white background content

Go to settings and on the Accessibility menu and look for an option for direct access to its features, on my device it is under :advanced , direct access and you choose a combination of keys, mine is power button and volume up and set it to toggle "color inversion".

I use a Samsung device and I don't know if this is available for all Android devices or if there is a better way. I was looking for a way to read Gdoc files without hurting my eyes and battery and avoiding downloading Ad ons that co...

PSA: The "Fab Wallpapers" app which is ranked #24 on the app charts with 100,000+ downloads is displaying Facebook phishing popups

Just a heads up the "Fab Wallpapers" app which is currently ranked #24 on the app charts is serving Facebook phishing popups and other malware.

The app has permissions to "retrieve running apps" and when you install it and then start using Facebook you will get a popup that looks to be from Facebook asking you to re-login.

This is a phishing advert that then steals your Facebook login information. (Doesn't happen straight away but if you read 1* reviews on the app they all mention similar thi...

On compact Android phones and the reason we aren't getting any

I've posted this a few times as a comment, now I will expand and structure the explanation. But first of all I want to clarify that there are three thresholds of compactness:

1. **Grip**. Starting from some size (which is individual, in my case it's roughly 60-63 mm wide, so the iPhone SE size would be perfect) the grip isn't firm anymore, though you still can use it with one hand while lying on the couch of course.
2. **Reachability**. Again, it's individual, but starting from some size (after...
