Apps have access to your file system without permission

So i figured something out and I don't know if anyone else has as I can't find information on the specific circumstance that I found it in. For the game Mario Kart Tour, at some point there was an update in March which caused it to stop working on my Oneplus 6T. It just force closed after a few seconds or locked up soon after loading. I figured it might have something to do with Root as Nintendo doesn't generally let you run their apps on a rooted system for whatever stupid reason. It was workin...
