Hi all, long time Android user and have always edged on the side of bigger phones/screens ever since the days of the Samsung Note 2 (or II to be precise!).

Google Assistant: Still unable to report air quality on its own.

We've had 3 really bad summers/falls of wildfires in California now and we're entering our fourth consecutive year. One thing I have noticed is throughout the years, Assistant struggles with displaying air quality.

Hiding the 3 dot navigation bar on android 11 [root]

So for those who like to use 3rd party gesture navigation apps like myself you probably found yourself sol on android 11 because you can't hide the 3 button nav bar. Well with root you can.


What's needed
- Magisk
- the "Magiskhide Props Config" module
- a terminal emulator such as termux


Onto the steps.
- switch nav to 3 button nav in settings.

It might require multiple attempts, but it's worked for a few people now.

Nova Launcher and Android 11 😝

If you have encountered issues with your Android phone after Android 11 update it's most likely due to Nova Launcher, if that's your active launcher at this moment.

My phone was deemed useless in the past two days and had to deal with a multitude of issues such aa overheating, battery drain, freezing at lock screen and sluggish behavior overall.

After I disabled Nova Launcher (latest update) everything went back to normal. Now running Pixel Launcher and it solved all issues. Hope Nova Launch...

Even some basic feature flip-phones with no touch screen now use Android underneath

The ZTE z2332cc is an interesting device. It's a Consumer Cellular branded phone (a cell phone carrier that targets primarily older people) that runs Android, but can hardly be considered a smartphone, as it has no app marketplace at all, no web browser, and no touch screen.

PSA: Screenshot button missing on Android 11 if you use 2 button navigation

Just posting this because it took me a while to figure out what was going on.

In android 11, the screenshot button has been moved from the power button menu to the task switching screen. However, apparently, it does not currently show up if you use the two button system navigation setting. It does show normally if you use 3 button or gesture based navigation.

PSA: Clean your ports.

Get a plastic toothpick and gently clean your charging port. You'd be surprised the gunk that develops inside. My USB-C stopped charging in one direction. I tried several cables and encountered the same problem making me think my port was damaged or malfunctioning. I rubbed it gently with a plastic dental pick and it works again!

A plastic (or wooden) toothpick, maybe some isopropyl alcohol.

Just thought this psa might be useful to other people....
