What 'next gen' features are you looking for on your next upgrade?

We're coming up on the end of the year, the new SD888 phones are expected to be releasing in the next few weeks and the Q1 release windows are right on our doorstep, so lots of people will be buying a new phone in the next few months.

I've had my phone for a year now and I'm quite happy with it, as long as it keeps working I don't think I'll upgrade any time in the next 3 years. That got me thinking though, what are features I'd like in my next phone. Here's what I've come up with:

* Under di...

I tested the iPhone 12 Pro Max against the 11 Pro, Pixel 4a, and Pixel 4XL in extreme low light conditions. Here's what I learned.

In this test, I decided to compare it to the 11 Pro, Pixel 4XL and Pixel 4a. I shot everything handheld to simulate real world conditions. If you want to see how the iPhone 12 Pro (non Max) compares to the Pixel 4XL and the iPhone 11 Pro,[check out this post I made](https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/jktp5z/i_tested_the_iphone_12_pro_night_mode_against_the/) a couple months ago.

Here are the results.

* iPhone 12 Pro Max usually goes for a higher ISO and faster shutter speed vs 11 Pro usu...

1080p displays are objectively better than 1440p for performance & battery life, so why are we acting like any phone switching from 1440p to 1080p is a "downgrade" in terms of user experience?

Genuinely curious. Asking mainly because of the recent S21 post and the comments on it;

Specifically, people that seem to be acting like its "unforgivable" that a +$1000 USD phone has a 1080p display and not a 1440p one. Or asking whether they'll see much of a downgrade because of the l...

Android to iphone and back, why

My beloved Pixel 2 XL reached EOL, so time to get a new phone. I have teenagers, they need iphones for imessage(look it up, green bubbles get excluded from group chats, not good as a teenager) I figured I should try it. I like my macbook(professional software dev) so why not?
Iphone Pros:

* imessage is nice, android message platform is a mess. Hopefully they stick with messages
* Lots of choices for accessories
* I like the multi window carplay over the hover bar of android auto. AA is more ...

Samsung makes a first-party app to increase the number of volume steps so the jumps are smaller. Had been annoying me, so I thought I'd post in case anyone else was wayyy behind like me

Nice that it's a Samsung app, and I am clearly not a dev for it for the same reason. I was always using the slider because one step was too quiet and the next one was too loud. This app is called SoundAssistant and is on Galaxy and Google stores. Opening it takes you to settings, and adjustments also made my Galaxy Watch volume increments smaller.

Anyway, this had been annoying me forever, so i know it's probaby not what most people are looking for on this sub, but hope it helps someone...

Portrait mode on phones vs zoom cameras

This race for crazy zoom on phones is pretty ridiculous, don't you think? How often do you use that much zoom on your phones , as compared to taking portraits?

Telephoto lenses are supposed to be used for portraits because they don't distort the face that much. That's why 85mm is preferred by professional photographers. And to achieve that we only need 2X or 3X telephoto lenses.

If you pair a 2x or 3x telephoto lens with a widest aperture you can get and a big sensor, you can get insane portr...
