Google Messages Wishlist

With the news about all US carriers committing to use Google Messages RCS by default (at some point in the future), I took some liberty to create a list of features that I think the app should have to increase adoption and be more competitive with other popular messaging apps.

Why don't Android OEMs optimize as much as Apple?

We've all heard it, Apple builds iOS therefore they can optimize the hell out of it. My question is why don't Android OEMs do the same thing with android. Android is open source (save for the google bits) so an OEM can just take that and modify it till the point its tailor made for their phones. Why doesn't anyone do this, as far as I can tell most optimizations stop at the look and feel of the device and maybe some inelegant optimizations, like what oneplus recently did.
