GS201 (successor to the Google Tensor in the Pixel 6?) is in the works

Platform: Add GS201 platform support.

This should not come as a surprise to anyone. I wonder what improvements/changes they'll make. Supposedly, Google is making its own chip for Chromebooks, too.

Can we talk about how Material You has only removed customization options.

Just got Android 12 on my pixel 5 yesterday. For an update that's marketed as being about "You", all Google has done is removed options to customize.

Let's refresh ourselves on what Android 11 can do.

Choose from 7 Fonts.
Choose from 7 quick setting icon styles.
Choose from 14 colours.
Choose from 7 App shapes.
Choose the Grid size.
You can then save all those as a profile, so you can easily switch between profiles.

Now let's look at Android 12 with...

Swift Backup 3.7 adds Android 12 support and uses Shizuku to perform batch backups without root

Pretty significant update to Swift Backup - a comprehensive app and data backup solution on Android (and alternative to Titanium Backup) - just got released. Version 3.7 not only adds Android 12 support but also uses Shizuku to perform many batch actions without needing root.

While you still can't do a full backup of app data without root (understandable), this should help speed up making and managing manual backups of ...

Google Translate's Material You redesign is rolling out to more Pixels

Google Translate has a neat Material You redesign that went live on the Pixel 6 series a few days ago, but with version 6.25 rolling out via Google Play, that redesign has reached other Pixel phones, including the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5.

Here's an album showing the new design....

Android 12 growing pains?

I'm seeing a lot of feature related reviews and some positive response for the latest update. As a Pixel 5 user I have to say I'm not finding the visual overhaul to be very intuitive, and I'm not personally seeing any useful improvements. I don't use widgets really so that's probably part of why the benefits are lost on me. But usually after a day or so I get used to a visual update and move on. This time I find myself continually bothered by the changes.

Am I the only one? Curious to see other...
