Pixel 6 Pro "concerning things you've heard" thread - David Ruddock

Source

>I'm going to go through some of the issues I've encountered so far and try to describe them in more detail for anyone who's still on the fence about this phone.

>1/x: Battery life!

>I can't speak enough to this yet, but after a couple of days, my instinct is that what you've read (battery on 5G/mobile data isn't great, battery on Wi-Fi is good) is probably correct. Samsung modem PPW is just not going to be as good as Qualcomm's...

Google Assistant Driving Mode is slow, buggy, and fundamentally unsafe.

I have used Android Auto every day for at least a year and, while it had its quirks, the concept was sound. Maps opened by default, tabs for media and calls - simple, effective and most importantly - predictable.

Android 12 has forced the use of Google Assistant Driving Mode, and I hate it. Maybe it's because I'm using a Pixel 4a, but it is consistently slow to load, fails to respond to presses and often the toolbar at the bottom just doesn't load, and instead there's just a white bar. B...

Pixel 6 Pro power behaviour, same LFD ambient brightness crap as on the S21 Ultra, however with just utterly absurd power figures. 60Hz also uses more power than 120Hz in brighter environments - it's a big fail. If you're using the phone in dark environments, skip it. - Andrei F.

Unimpressed with Android 12

So last night I installed android 12 on my Pixel 5, and the first impressions are not good. Mostly just things that I don't like, that I feel were better done on Android 11:

The lock screen clock is so damn ugly
It doesn't look like a clock. Why is it so big? why can't I change it? Why does it look so different (but better) when I have a notification

Why do I have 2 fewer quick settings when I drag down the notification view?
Obviously, its because more won't fit, but I don'...

(OneUi Beta 4) Immersive mode is back

So today, I just found out that a beloved feature I was missing is back: immersive mode. I can choose which apps to ignore the camera cutout and be shown full screen. The status bar can be shown for a few seconds by swiping down from the too of the screen. Thought this might interest users of other platforms as well (for using the phones completely in full screen and to prevent burn in for example)....
