What happened to Samsung's "Bigger Pixels = Better Pictures" from the Galaxy S7 Launch event?
This is from the launch event of the Galaxy S7
Samsung went from using a 16 MP sensor in the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S6 to a 12 MP sensor in the Galaxy S7.
Then when they were presenting it to the audience, they also explained how the bigger a pixel is, the more light it can absorb and produce better pictures. The Galaxy S7 was the best camera phone when launched and in many ways, was simply amazing. Its Autofocus was better and faster than most, if not all phon...

What big breakthroughs, if any, could be on the horizon in near future?
i havn't bought a new phone for 5 years and now I'm in a cycle of expecting more from any phone i may buy, and feeling that it's not enough of an upgrade for the things i care about despite how old my current phone is; and then It's been even longer since I've upgraded and now my expectations are even higher... and so on.
The one feature I'm eyeing is notch/hole-less display but i'm fearing that may be too premium of a feature for a phone to still have a headphone jack.
Another feature, if i...

Set up a simple external notification light for an Android device, great for elderly people
TLDR: if you already have some at home, Philips Hue can be used as a practical notification lamp
My mom likes her tablet, but finds it a chore to always have to check for notifications - she manages an airbnb, so fast reaction is often needed
- she's not around the device often, so sounds don't make much sense
- always on display is also not good, eats battery on cheaper devices (no OLED), you still need to get physically close, especially when the display lays flat, and you can't use a cover ...

What was the worst year for smartphones in recent memory?
In my opinion it has to be one between 2015 and 2018, esp. 2015-2017 for Samsung. They've upped their game since then. 2015 wasn't completely terrible, but it was a bit underwhelming coming from 2014 with a pretty solid array of smartphones and I didn't like the interface updates of the Samsung phones in 2015-2017. Them changing almost every ring tone for 2015/6 was bad as the 2013/14 era Samsung ringtones sounded better and more clear. But there were some important issues in those years:
