Would you use a phone that no longer receives security updates?

I finally caved in and switched my primary device from my beloved KEY2 to a Pixel 5.

The KEY2 has gotten 3 full years of security updates (impressive for a TCL device) but that has now ended, with August 2021 being the last update.

In the past, I never paid any attention to security updates, I didn't care about them in the slightest. What mattered to me was: Do I actually enjoy the device I'm currently using, even after the initial "honeymoon" period?

Now, thanks to some fear mongering abo...

So Youtube have basically blacklisted all old ver with the "no dislike" ... but if you remove updates and reinstall you can launch it from the play store

Very stupid but it works, but when you close it , it will show the same lame blacklisted screen saying to upgrade or use browser , so you have to do it everytime ,this is just for old androids firmware that cant go any higher...

Manufacturers should offer 5 years of updates and there's a pretty simple reason for it

Android phones in the beginning used to become basically E-waste after 3 years of use and that's no longer the case.

The hardware holds up for a much longer time and people still are using 5 year old phones stuck on ancient android versions.

There are options like custom ROMs but they're not for everyone...

The Android notification shade is more confusing than it's ever been. Here is why.

Had android phones from Cupcake to Honey Comb. I went to Apple until Android Kit Kat and have been using Android since then.

I have embraced a lot of change and for the most part have really liked the direction Android has taken throughout the years. I had an OG pixel and now a Pixel 3. Android 12 though, may be insufferable and I attribute most of it to the notification shade.

The swipe and tap gymnastics are enough to make me lose my mind. I'm willing to overlook the design choice of big but...

What do you think with which phone the custom ROMs and modifications have peaked? What was the craziest thing you have seen?

We are living in the age of closed bootloaders and more streamlined software so obviously the time when everyone installed custom roms have gone. Still existing but it is a niche segment. I went through the entire Galaxy S series up-to version 5, I had HTC and ZTE phones and I think the custom roms peaked with SGS3. This was mainly up-to the phone's popularity, great hardware with open bootloader and bloated, slow stock rom. However I had most fun with the SGS1. There was a thing called the rom ...

At a glance weather finally working on my Pixel5 with this setting change

I was reading an article today after a month of at a glance not working except for date/time.

In the comments someone mentioned settings>privacy>personalize using app data

screenshot

Totally worked. I'm so relieved....

I tested two 1TB microSDXC cards in four Android phones from 2016 through 2020. What kind of differences can you expect between U3/A2 speed cards from different price classes?

Images and graphics related to this post on Imgur: https://imgur.com/a/3nCa34x . There is also a Google Drive spreadsheet with my measurements and details of the hardware used.

# TLDR;

A smartphone's internal storage will typically offer you up to 10x higher read and write speeds than removable microSD can. The Sandisk Extreme PRO 1TB (U3/A2) offers double the ...

Force custom colors for Material You

I found a non-root way to force different colors other than the wallpaper colors. If this is not allowed here, sorry.

Install this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lb.lwp_plus

In the app, I used these settings.

Wallpaper type: Cropped image.

Select your image. Hit the crop icon top right to set it. Ya, that's odd.

Background color: Black.

Toggle custom colors to on. Pick the colors you want to use. Material You will use these colors instead of th...

My pixel 3 finally updated to Android 12 and I miss the old features.

- I used to control chromecast volume with my volume controls now I have to reopen the app, open the volume and use a slider tool.

- I can't skim through my app library by swiping up

- weirdly the most irritating is that apps Ive put in grouped folders now overflow from the white circle...
