Why hasn't a different approach to foldable phones been attempted?

So as we are seeing, a lot of manufacturers are developing the first generation of foldable smart phones to be released this year. Many of the issues tend to stem from the crease in the middle causing it to look more like a Taco when it's folded as opposed to the slimmer design of modern smartphones. What's the criteria for Android deciding that a feature should become standard?

I was thinking about how I used to get Tasker and Doze from the Play Store, but now some of these features are incorporated into my phone without me having to download 3rd party apps. I also started to wonder why a caller ID isn't standard yet and I still need to satisfy that need through Play....

Play Store update: version 13.3.30-all [0] [PR] 232314210 revamps the rating system, allowing you to sort through reviews by star rating, high rated, low rated, and specific keywords.

Which Form of Folding Phone Would You Buy if You had the Money?

Theres a lot of forms these phone are going to come in

Horizontal fold (Motorola Razr v4) Where it would be a mini phone that flips up to become a normal phone size


Vertical folds:

2 Displays (Galaxy F) folds inwards and a secondary screen is on the outside

Double fold (Xiaomi) when folded the back would have each halfs of the screen folded on its back (similar to flex pai but with 2 folds)

Single display (Flex Pai) We've all seen this one

Edit: I forgot the new nubia and TCL smart"watch"...

Does anybody else miss freeform icons on Android?

So this is one thing that I didn't really notice happening, I suppose because it took a while for developers to support adaptive icons and it was a gradual change, but I came across this [old screenshot from my Nexus 6P](https://imgur.com/a/RrcNyOL) and it reminded me of what they used to look like...

Now we have what, in my opinion, is a pretty [frustrating mess of different icon shapes jammed into circular icons that is just inefficient.](https://imgur.com/a/rpvqfs6).

I suppose it's Google's...
