Improving the Android application update experience

When I am actively using an app which is on the list of apps being updated on the Play Store, the app just closes without warning when the update download completes. This in my opinion is a pretty poor design. Some solutions would be:

1. Deferring the update and moving to the end of the update queue, where android waits until the foreground app is closed
2. Showing a warning using a toast, and immediately update when user closes the app
3. Showing a notification that says 'waiting to update <a...

The Android check for update page now has a dark theme

Not sure when this happened, but I just went to check for the March security update and noticed my update screen is fully black (and that's true AMOLED black for those who care). Pixel 3 on the February security update.

It's great that Google is finally adding dark mode to everything. I've been wanting this for years...

POCO F1/ POCOFONE F1 Review with all bad things and good things(also AMA)

Hey guys, so I have been using the POCO F1 from Xiaomi for about 3 months. I bought this device as I was on a budget and also wanted a powerful phone. Here I am gonna give my review of it after extensive use.

The Good:

* Its just as advertised. Its fast and has all the mentioned features.

* Its camera is pretty good once you install GCam from XDA and it doesn't require root as far as I know.

* It has snapdragon 845 with min 6GB RAM and 64Gb storage with expandable storage.

* Headpho...

Sony Mobile's new CEO has induced a new life in the Xperia line-up, embracing the fact that they're not here to appeal everyone like "Samsung and Huawei" will hopefully bring us a greater level of improvement on already existing and excellent tech

*"Sony as a brand is not going to appeal to everybody. We’re not a Samsung, we’re not a Huawei. But what we will appeal to is people who want quality products where they are able to take amazing pictures or a video or do something different."*

This quote comes from Kimio Maki, the President of Sony Mobile, who earlier was the President of Digital Imaging Group of Sony. Kimio has finally brought to light the issues the poor Sony Mobile division faced in the past,i.e., The Alpha division prior to...

I have a Redmi Note 7 Pro. AMA

I have a Redmi Note 7 Pro with me. Been using it for the last 2-3 days now. Thoughts below.

1) Jesus christ. It is amazing how much value for money this phone offers. I am considering cancelling my Galaxy S10 pre-order tbh. Primarily due to the performance and battery life balance that it strikes.

2) The Camera is great. Not as good as Honor View 20 but still amazing for its price. The camera app is a bit slow, though I expect Xiaomi to improve it with a software update. T...

People on this sub are often complaining about bloatware, but no one ever talks about Wear OS (Android Wear) and the half-baked Google bloatware being shoved down out throats with each automatic update.

Hello I'm one of the dozens Wear OS users still around today; I have a Huawei Watch 2 which I initially loved but now hate with passion because of what Google has done to the software on it.

I've just had to reset my watch because of some bugs that were introduced (with automatic and seamless updates) which broke some features I often used (like theater mode, fixed by the factory reset, and telegram notifications) and added some features which I have no interest in using like Google Pay and Goo...

Play Store update (A/B test?) removes 3 dot menu (for installing without opening the product page) in search results

Not sure why, and it's quite annoying IMO. I used it all the time.
