Looks like Android Apps will be able to use the background space of the new iPhone-like navigation bar!

I just played with the new iPhone-like navigation bar, just before I reverted it back, I downloaded the Google I/O app, it surprised me that the app actually makes use of the blank space of the navigation bar:

It looks really cool, and I hope it will eventually make to final release of Android Q!...

Whats up with Android Tablets? Is it just me, or does it still seem like a mixed bag (at best)

Hey Folks,
What is the deal with current Android tablets? its always seemed that tablets in the android world have been a total mixed bag of crap, but I haven't really been following them for a while.
Looking now, so many tablets are being sold with WAY outdated versions of android, and I know its unlikely that they ever get updated.

If you had to recommend an android tablet to someone, which would you recommend? It seems for similar pricing, you can get an iPad, which as much as I'm not an a...

Take care in updating Samsung A6 plus to Android Pie with OneUI

I own a Samsung Galaxy A6 + as a work phone. I was quite pleased with it, did the job just fine and I loved the good battery life.

I have received the 9.0 update and OneUI about 2 weeks ago and have been experiencing problems:

- The phone is much slower in all aspects. But especially in contacts searching, text selecting/ cut/ pasting, web browsing.

- If I power down the phone with about 35% battery, when I power it back on it will show about 20% battery charge.

Another office college ha...

What ever happened to Android One?

Unless I'm mistaken, the only company to release phones this year with Android One is Nokia.

Is there any particular reason for this? Am I right in thinking that companies that did previously offer Android Obe have decided to drop it? And if so why?

I can't help but feel like this is real wasted opportunity for companies. I'd be infinitely more inclined to buy a new Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo if it had Android One or is it really just not in their interests to do so?...

Is the way Google Podcasts updates acceptable?

My Podcasts app hasn't updated since June 2018. A few days after initial release.

However last night I noticed the Sleep timer had been added. And over the year I've noticed a few other things added too.

So everything must be added server side. Why are they doing it this way? It means when new things are added you aren't told about it through an update and it means you lost control over updates. Ie, you can't, for whatever reason, decide not to update.

Is this method of updating going to be...

What Google Messages Needs

Since Allo is no more, unfortunately I was pushed to another platform. Google's decision to discontinue Allo was supposedly because they moved the engineers from Allo over to Messages. This is all well and good, but Messages has virtually **NONE** of the features from Allo. The only thing they've apparently done is gently revamp the UI so it sports Material Design 2, instead of Material Design 1. Granted, MD2 is a welcome change, as is Dark Mode and the Messages on the Web feature.
