Сериал основан на документальном проекте Nutopia, который был начат почти десять лет назад. Создатели планируют снять шесть серий, длительность каждой пока не сообщают. К решению выкупить права у продюсерской компании Nutopua руководство Netflix пришло после успеха таких проектов, как «Очень странные дела» и «Корона».

Планируется, что в сериале будут использованы как элементы документального фильма, так и исторические реконструкции. В последнее время такие сериалы неизменно пользуются успехом — как, например, проекты канала History.
