Coat of Arms of House Byrne of Altagracia
Originally from Halainn, House Byrne was exiled from their homeland a few centuries before even the Alziran Kingdom was founded. Upon their arrival to the north, after a grueling journey across the Northern Ocean of Alkor, they had no desire for peace talks. They needed land, and unlike their previous attempt in Zoprya, they were not going to use their words. The Kingdom of Altagracia rejected House Byrne’s demand for land. That is how they, along with all of Alzira, would come to know the Bloodsworn—House Byrne’s rabidly loyal, elite army. Following the annihilation of House Mendoza, and looking to quickly appease this looming threat, every other kingdom in Alzira rapidly recognized House Byrne as the rulers of Altagracia.
From the coronation of Niall as King Niall I of Altagracia, up until the dissolution of the Alziran Kingdom, House Byrne made sure to remind itself that they were conquerors in foreign lands, and although they had no desire to return, they also became permanently paranoid about the possibility of losing this new land and becoming wanderers once more.
Of note is that by the establishment of the Alziran Kingdom just over 150 years after the arrival of House Byrne, most of the Kingdom’s population considered House Byrne to be Alziran, and had no desire to kick them out.
P.S. the Alziran Kingdom is not to be confused with the Kingdom of Alzira. There’s a difference! The Alziran Kingdom was composed of many lesser kingdoms, each with their own crowns, while the Kingdom of Alzira was a single kingdom with a single crown.
