Люди та пухнасті... Я з цим уніком скоро ріхнуся.
Taxidermy of pets/home animals and what do you think about it?
First of all. There are always contests. As a person in health science major, I see death as a process that will await every one of us. Sooner or later.
I love the idea of learning models and think alternatives from plastic do indeed exist... not everything can be substituted in this way.
This particular time I want to talk about something we do have a choice of. Making a Taxidermy of a beloved animal. Death is also a painful concept. I can see why people want to hold close their memories and feelings (tactile and visual associations).
Step to the side, for a second, to dive into politics. I saw a study a couple of days ago, that talks about how democratic people have "richer" concerns about "other" living and non-living/human things. While Republicans have focused more on "Our" living and not at all on non-living/human things. And it's why I wanted to talk about it a little bit. Social media opens the gates to hell every time this particular topic comes up. (I don't remember the source of the study)
Returning to the taxidermy. I see how people argue that it's inhumane (question what is humane) (cultural question) but I rarely see somebody arguing about one specific point... while for you, at this moment, this particular animal means so much you pay a huge amount of money to create a relick you deeply care about, what will happen in a couple of generations? Nobody will care about this piece. But then, if you were the only one to care and you were not around anymore... would that matter?
It's all the same point to people overall having connections to stuff. A lot of it is connected to history and there a whole professionals whose whole purpose is to learn about items that were saved. It's how we learn about the past. Cultural development and everything In this spirit. But why? Why do humans tend to be so controversial about this stuff? You can argue that a big part of it is "surviving"
Aka long dead animal - infected, therefore if you touch or eat = death.
But in a world where everything is online, would you say we losing not only our attention span but instincts that were protecting us? For example reddit and whole "gore" fandom. We decentralized ourselves to so many things. And the scary part, if everything is online- would that mean our "era" will be first "empty" on relics? If something had happened to us and every database online had crashed... the only remains would be crafted knowledge (books and ironically some art) where first we have extremely fragile and flammable objects, and sometimes what will be quite hard to understand even from some who live right now. I do know we have deep underground hideouts for literature and other stuff like plant seeds. But... but. We are truly in such a technological jump there is not much to "save". Only 10 last years got us a crazy amount of information.
Having all this always going, and looking quite an unstoppable river of updates and pursuing meaningless standards of the current state...
When we die. We die. If it's easier for you to brush your dead pet before going to sleep - go with it. Nobody but you will care. It's also why you should make use of it's biodegrade and order what when you die, your taxidermy should be buried to return nutrients from the skin back to the system. And maintain it humanely (culture and traditional aspects of burial rituals)
