A C-17 entered Afghanistan airspace, the US may have already received airspace clearance from the Taliban, the aircraft then used invalid transponder codes. It flew directly over east of Kabul, and reappeared (turned their transponders on) once in Tajikistan, heading towards Dushanbe.

Meanwhile, just prior to that, two recon aircrafts carried out operations over Afghanistan:
- A Cessna 208 Caravan, under invalid code 0000, flew over Kabul-Baglan province, then entered into Tajikistan airspace. A Cessna 208 Caravan is primarily used for intelligence and surveillance gatherings.
- A US Daher Kodiak, at speeds of 155-183 knots, carried out observations, for which the aircraft is best for. The operation of the aircraft were over Kotal-e Onay region.

Their activities were typical of surveillance and reconnaissance, either against the Islamic State of the Khorasan Province, or neighbouring Iran.
