🇮🇶 - Initial clashes in Erbil, Iraq, began earlier in the afternoon.

Territorial disputes over the past few weeks between two prominent Kurdish clans, the Harki and Goran, led to light skirmishes. This led to the Barzani-led Pashmerga government intervening, calling for 'land reform' on the tribal territories. The 'reforms' were strongly rejected by the Harki clan.

Earlier today, Pashmerga forces launched operations into the tribal land, going as far as ordering the arrest of Khurshid Harki, senior figure of the Harki clan. The Harki clan set-up road blocks, and began ambushing Pashmerga forces. The clashes this afternoon resulted in the deaths of three people.

The Pashmerga government gave the Harki clan an ultimatum to withdraw the blockade, the clan did not comply. As a result, full-scale fighting erupted late evening.

Note, some of the Harki elders are negotiating with Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, where they agree to hand over Khurshid Harki for a 'symbolic' arrest, but to be then released.
For Turkey, the Barzani-led Pashmerga government is preferred over the so-called 'Free Kurdish Tribes', whereas the opposite is true for Iran, and the Iraqi-based Popular Mobilization Forces.

🇮🇶⚡- Khurshid Harki, senior figure in the Harki clan, claims the Barzani-led Pashmerga government has done worse to the Kurdish people in Iraq than Israel has done to the Palestinians in Gaza.
