Racism and the Great Depression in the 1930s drove hundreds of African Americans away from the United States. The Soviet Union looked like an attractive option, given its socialist ideology of social equality and absence of racial prejudice. They had nothing to lose at home: a lack of prospects and restrictions separated them from society.

Many African Americans have amazing stories about relocating to the USSR and making good there. Their children and grandchildren grew up in Russia, considering it their home.

Aleksey Maresyev was a Soviet pilot during World War II. He was shot down in April 1942. His plane crashed in a forest, but Maresyev miraculously survived. Bleeding from wounds, it took him 18 days to reach safety in the nearest village of Plavni.

By the time he was taken to hospital, his injuries were so bad - both his legs had to be amputated. Nevertheless, Maresyev learned to use his prosthetic legs and returned to combat. The legendary pilot completed 86 combat flights and downed 11 Nazi planes.

A surprisingly warm welcome and no aggression whatsoever.’ Our documentary, Eden for the Homeless, was shown in a movie theatre in Springfield, Missouri. Some 80 people came to watch the documentary about a local community for the long-term homeless. Called Eden Village, it provides permanent housing for homeless people with disabilities and gives them a chance to start anew.

After the screening, RT Documentary’s director talked to the audience. It was ‘a surprisingly warm welcome and no aggression whatsoever,’ he says. ‘There were a few moments when emotions were overflowing, and tears came to eyes. A huge thank you to those who organised the event and everyone who showed up.’

After the documentary premiered on our YouTube channel, Eden Village received numerous letters from people from around the world asking how they could help their community. Our YouTube channel is blocked, but all old and new films are available on Odysee odysee.com/@RTDocumentary:4

The debate over gun control in the United States is sparked time and again after each mass shooting, but in the end, a solution is never reached.

For some, guns will always be a threat no matter what they are used for, while others are convinced the only way to teach gun safety is being around a gun. However, government attempts to restrict gun possession are viewed as clamping down on fundamental rights.

How can the government control a feature of American life that has historically kept that very government in check? And what lessons can be learned to prevent future tragedies from happening?

You voted - we did it! Here’s the first full documentary we uploaded on Telegram. Fascism: A History explores the nature of the ideology and how it’s been tainting societies long after Hitler. It’s also relevant to the current events unfolding in Ukraine.

The documentary reveals how NATO, created after WWII, carried on with colonial politics and expanded to the east under the auspices of bringing democracy.

Half of our lives are spent online sending email and reading electronic media. No wonder social networks are gaining more and more power over people and becoming significant decision-makers. Some might say they even outrank governments. In a digital world, being banned from a social network means social isolation and can cause serious reputational, if not health damage.

At the same time, Section 230 leaves the social networks invincible, as they are not held accountable for things posted. Yet, the three internet giants, YouTube, Google and Facebook, make their own choices about what news people see. Are they ready to open up about their censorship algorithms and consider wisely using the power section 230 gives them?

“Do me a favour, go and look at the dead. My husband went to the shop, and he’s missing.”

Our documentary filmmaker Vyacheslav Guz was filming the aftermath of a bus explosion in Donetsk when an elderly woman approached him. Unfortunately, investigators would not allow her to see the corpses.

Here’s what Vyacheslav told us: “She said to me: ‘Son, can you go through there?’ - I can, I said. – ‘Do me a favour, go and look at the dead. My husband went to the shop, and he’s not still returned. I’m afraid he’s among the dead. I’ll call him now. And you listen, if there will be a phone call.’I went to the bodies. One of them had a phone ringing in his trousers...”

This very bus after the explosion is in the photo.

For 872 days, Leningrad was cut off from the outside world. Nazi forces encircled the city, launching the deadliest and longest blockade in history. Within the first few weeks, food supplies were depleted, leading to extreme famine. Glue, cellulose, shoe soles - anything consumable was used as food. About 1.1 million people died during the siege, most of them starved to death.

Lidia Sudina and Dmitry Buchkin witnessed air raids, bombardment, and starvation as children. Hear their recollection of the ordeal in our documentary, Leningrad Siege Reflections.

‘I’ve filmed all sorts of things before from deadly protests to funerals, so I didn’t expect to get this emotional today,’ RT Documentary’s Marina Kosareva describes her visits to temporary housing locations for Donbass refugees in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don and in the Moscow region.

Rehab centres, summer camps, sports halls, private houses, and a church are all temporary housing. Ordinary people host friends and relatives who had to flee their homes too.

These centres receive humanitarian aid, and refugees are offered psychological help. ‘Very sad to watch people live like this, especially with kids.’

Here’s a sneak peek at Marina’s upcoming documentary. Stay tuned. It will be available at RTD.RT.com and odysee.com/@RTDocumentary:4
