Riots and protests erupt in Haiti over sky-high fuel prices

If you die today, you don’t even know if you’re going to make it to a morgue. You could be left in the street for dogs and animals to eat you,’ says the 22-year-old Haitian. He, like many others, has been protesting over skyrocketing prices and fuel shortages. What’s more, the government has stripped residents of their fuel subsidies, which has caused prices to double.

The situation has also been exacerbated by the actions of gangs, which, according to the UN, control about 40 per cent of the national capital. They have blocked the fuel depot, cutting off about 10 million gallons of diesel and petrol. Because of this, public transport is extremely limited. People travel miles on foot just to get food and water.

Our documentary takes a look at life in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Life there has always been hard, but people look for ways to survive. For example, they ask Voodoo spirits to help. Watch Voodoo Spirits of Haiti about locals, traditions and beliefs.

Americans enraged as Biden sends billions to Ukraine instead of Hurricane-hit Florida

Judging by the memes now flooding the internet, US taxpayers are not happy. And who can blame them? While Florida hurricane survivors face delays in receiving aid, Biden continues to dump huge sums of money into Ukraine - another $12.4 billion.

Hurricane Ian was recognized as one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit the US. It killed at least 120 people in Florida and caused catastrophic damage to the state. ‘FEMA, the government, they don’t care about people down here like us,’ said 49-year-old Chris Buxton, who barely survived the Category 4 storm.

Although FEMA approved a $70 million payout to Florida victims this week, analysts say the hurricane caused more than $40 billion in property damage claims alone.

It appears that Biden has shown his priorities. Is it reasonable to distribute US taxpayer dollars in such a way?

‘Living among the dead… imagine what it’s like waking up in a cemetery?’ asks Khamis Kuhail, from Gaza, Palestine. The Kuhail family built their home in the Sheikh Shaban burial ground. The foundations of their dwelling are covering the graves of at least two unknown people. Khamis’ five kids play on the graves, but are still afraid of dogs, snakes and scorpions who haven’t got used to being neighbours with people yet.

The family isn’t the only one living here. People have no choice but to build their homes at the cemetery because the region is overpopulated and there’s an acute housing shortage.

The situation is made even worse by the ongoing military conflict with Israel. The territory is regularly shelled. But the Palestinians keep fighting for their territories. Our documentary Seeking Recognition: Palestine is about the local’s struggle. Watch it here.

What is his life like now? Watch the episode to find out.

US believes Kiev was behind the murder of Russian journalist Daria Dugina.

The New York Times, citing a report released by the White House last week, says the U.S. intelligence agencies note that members of the Ukrainian government knew and authorized the bombing of the car in which Daria Dugina was traveling.

Some officials in the U.S. suspect that the actual target of the Ukrainian operation was Daria's father, Alexander Dugin. The report also states that the U.S. was not involved in organizing the attack and had no knowledge of the impending assassination.

US Prison for Afghanistan

On October 7, 2001, the Americans launched Operation Enduring Freedom. Its goal was to defeat al-Qaeda and the Taliban. But it was ordinary people who suffered first and foremost.

US bombs destroyed all this. No one warned us! We didn’t have a chance to evacuate,’ says Afghan village elder, Malik Khayat.

See the documentary US Prison for Afghanistan (2021) to learn more. It was filmed a month before the Taliban came to power.
