Setting dogs on people, electrocution - this is how the U.S. military tortured Afghan Haji Ghalib Mujahid in 2003 at Bagram military prison in Afghanistan. The man was falsely accused of being a member of Al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

Five months later, Haji Ghalib was transferred to Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba. There, the US military beat him relentlessly. Only four years later Haji was found innocent and released. And there are many more stories like this one. During the war in Afghanistan, the Americans imprisoned and tortured civilians.

Twenty-one years ago the United States launched Operation Enduring Freedom. Its goal was to defeat the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. But what did the U.S. bring to Afghanistan? They killed civilians and left behind destroyed villages.

See the stories of those affected by the US military in our video and film, US Prison for Afghanistan (2021). RT Documentary team filmed it a month before the Taliban came to power.

Residents of Indonesia are abandoning their homes due to floods. In these photos you can see one of the families. Asia and her family fled from a village on the northern coast of the Indonesian island of Java.

10 years ago, water levels began to rise there and destroyed all the crops. Residents adapted: the farmers bred fish and raised their houses with mud and concrete.

But the water continued to rise, and two years ago Asia's family left their native village and moved to the city of Semarang. There they rented a one-room unfurnished studio apartment. ‘I miss my home,’ she says, ‘I never imagined it would become an ocean.’

Not only remote villages are going underwater, but also the capital of Indonesia — Jakarta. See the Water episode from the No way back series about human activity disrupting the global ecological balance.

Chasing Che

In the Bolivian village where Che Guevara was killed, he is considered a saint. People pray before his portrait. And all this despite the fact that the guerrilla leader, who considered himself the opposite of Jesus Christ, didn’t hesitate to commit violence for the sake of revolution. T-shirts and badges with his image are sold all over the world. Che Guevara's face is on thousands of tattoos. People write poems and songs about him, make films. He’s a legend.

Ernesto Che Guevara was an Argentinian who participated in the revolution in Cuba, and died as a rebel in Bolivia. He came there to fight against the local government to save the poor from their poverty. To this end, he gathered a partisan detachment. But the Bolivian peasants did not want to fight, and the commander failed to get the support he needed.

On October 8, 1967, the Bolivian military, with the help of the CIA, tracked down the revolutionary. They took him prisoner in a battle, and the next day they shot him.

See our film Chasing Che (2017) and find recordings of the revolutionary, which he made shortly before his death. Why did he dream of new wars and death in battle?

People may be left without satellite communications and navigation due to space debris. Even small fragments pose a threat when they crash into satellites.

Space flights become dangerous as well. ‘Collisions do occur, as we can see on the portholes. We take 2D pictures with a special camera and equipment,’ says Russian cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov.

Meanwhile, there is becoming more and more debris in Earth’s orbit, but scientists have not yet figured out how to address this issue. What are the options? Find out in our clip and film Space Debris.

Mobile abortion clinic gets rolling in US

This picture is an advertisement for a mobile abortion clinic in the United States. Doctors in Illinois offer to terminate pregnancies on the bus. They lure patients from the states where abortion is illegal.

This summer, the US Supreme Court allowed each state to decide for itself whether it is for abortion or against it. As a result, abortion is now illegal or heavily restricted in 17 US states, while at least 26 Republican-led states are expected to follow in fashion. Missouri, for example, made no exceptions even for cases involving violence or incest. And in Kentucky, violators of the law can receive a 10-year prison sentence.

However, this did nothing to solve the abortion problem. Now, American women seeking an abortion travel to neighboring states for the procedure.

The residents of America describe how the abortion law divided the country in our documentary Abortion: America’s Divide.

Delivery in 24 Hours

Do you know how far a product travels from the warehouse to the customer? It is a very complicated logistical process.

In China, they have simplified it and given most of the work to robots. The machines sort orders in warehouses, and drones deliver them to customers. This is particularly convenient for the residents of hard-to-reach areas. But there is also plenty of work available for ordinary carriers, as many Chinese still want to receive their purchases in person.

Watch our film Delivery in 24 Hours (2021) to know more about the delivery technology in China.

Che Guevara, the legendary rebel and revolutionary, died in Bolivia 55 years ago. He helped make the revolution in Cuba, and fought in Congo. Not long before his death, he came to Bolivia to overthrow an imperialist regime.

On October 8, 1967, he was captured by the Bolivian military, and the next day he was shot. However, Bolivian children today know nothing about the commander. His memory is cherished only in the village where he was killed. The locals there pray to the portrait of Che Guevara. They ask him, for example, to return the cattle that escaped.

Watch our video and documentary Chasing Che (2017) to learn what he was to Bolivians.
