📍In these photos, residents of the Conchaccota community are suffering from the driest period in almost a half-century in Peru. Due to the dried-up lagoon, animals are dying and the planting of potatoes, the only vegetable grown, was postponed. Now Peruvians may not have enough food. It rained only twice in the past eight months. ‘Every day, I ask — I hope — the rain falls... when there is rain the grasses grow, the potatoes grow,’ says Huamani, a local farmer.

Serious global changes affect the entire planet. People from Yemen are also faced with the consequences of global warming. ‘It’s impossible to keep animals. Nothing grows here. What would we feed them? We had to sell our livestock’, says a Yemeni farmer, the main character of our documentary No Way Back: Heat.

🐫Qatar camels working overtime due to World Cup.

Thanks to the World Cup, animal handlers profit several times more than they normally would, forcing camels to work harder. But while making selfies on a camel, the fans don’t care about the health of the animals.

One of the handlers shared that a camel should rest after five rides, but ‘now, people are saying we can’t wait ... because they have other plans they need to go to the middle of the desert’. So, the animals are taken for 15 to 20 — sometimes even 40 rides — without a break.

Qatar’s camels surely must envy Zimbabwe’s animals from the 'Wild is Life' sanctuary. Here, the elephants, monkeys, giraffes and others suffered from hunters and are provided with special care. When an Elephant Smiles tells about those who devoted their life to saving animals and returning them to the wild.

🤿A diver almost died trying to break a world record

Spanish diver Miguel Lozano lost consciousness at a depth of 125m under the water, just two meters shy of a world record. He shared footage of his harrowing rescue on social networks. Watch it for yourself.

Some divers go even further and brave the cold by freediving under the ice, which differs dramatically from diving in warm waters. For example, if a diver can reach a depth of 110m, under the ice he would be able to reach only about 60m. Previously, we reported on the experiences of Andrey Matveenko, a Freediving World Championship medalist. Watch the clip and discover more about this astounding athlete and his sport.

This video shows dead red-listed seals on the shores of the Caspian Sea. According to Russia’s Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service, the release of natural gas was to blame as it caused oxygen starvation in the animals.

So far, 2,500 carcasses of the marine mammals have been found. Although this is not the first occurrence of seal deaths, there has never been such a mass killing of the mammals.

The cause of the death of seals in the Caspian Sea is yet to be determined, on Sakhalin the culprit for such tragedies is known to be man. The animals get entangled in plastic rubbish, scraps of netting, fishing line and packing tape, which can suffocate them. Watch Seal Empire Under Threat to see how volunteers work to save them.

🇪🇸Spain: Smugglers busted with drugs disguised as Ukrainian aid

Police in Spain have published a video of the arrest of smugglers who were transporting marijuana under the guise of humanitarian aid for Ukraine.

Police seized nearly $847,000, six weapons and 2,500 cannabis plants from the criminals. The drugs were being transported in vans under the guise of a solidarity caravan throughout Europe. This way the cargo went undetected by the police and border guards.

Among the 30 people detained were Ukrainians, Spaniards, Germans and Moroccans. They were charged with crimes, including drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and belonging to a criminal organisation.
