🧾'I had an average bill that was basically 4,700€ monthly and it went up to 30 000€ monthly.’ A French cheese maker complains about unaffordable electricity prices. He said that such a tariff would kill the business.
However, such fears do not seem to worry European officials. Despite the discontent of its citizens, the West continues its harsh anti-Russian policy. In December, the 9th package of sanctions was adopted. ‘We have put in place the strongest sanctions ever, which leave the Russian economy facing a decade of regression,’ Ursula von der Leyen declared at the World Economic Forum. But in the end, it is not Russia that suffers from it, but the Europeans themselves.
Not everyone agreed with the anti-Russian sanctions. Recently, the President of Croatia, Zoran Milanoviс, said that he sees no point in such moves: 'This is nonsense, and we will achieve nothing', the politician noted.
Even at the time of the first anti-Russian restrictions, experts warned that the measures could turn against the countries that introduced them. Is the current situation the result of such decisions? Our film Sanctions: Boomerang Effect is just about it.

On January 18, 1943, Soviet troops broke through the siege of Leningrad. By that time people were dying of hunger and eating the earth there. The city was shelled by the Germans every hour; they dropped more than 100 thousand bombs. 1.5 million of people died during the siege, many of them from exhaustion and starvation.
The siege began in the fall of 1941. Until the winter of 1943, it was almost impossible to get into the city or leave it, because all the routes were cut off by the fascists. There was still more than a year left before the blockade was completely lifted. But for the first time in a long period, people had food!
In our film Leningrad Siege Reflections (2013) you can listen to the stories of the blockade victims, who were children at that time. One of them is Lidia Sudina. Watch her story on the video.

💭‘When I was a teen I was told that the discomfort I was feeling was because I was meant to be a boy and that if I transitioned I would feel great.’
Luka Hein, born female, had a double mastectomy at 16 and later deeply regretted her transition. She believes that she just needed more attention, maybe to discuss her problems with a psychologist. Instead, she received the doctor’s advice to change sex.
Hein is just one of dozens suffering from the decision they made due to LGBT propaganda. ‘This is being promoted. It’s in the school system, it’s all over the internet, Hollywood is behind it,’ noted Michelle Cretella, M.D. at the American College of Pediatrics.
But the fact that there are more and more people who want to return their biological sex is being silenced. The negative consequences of transitioning is not widely discussed in the media. In the meantime, LGBT is popularized in society, and continues to invent new ways of breaking the laws of nature.
Discover more on Luka Hein in our video. And listen to others who regret the choice they once made in I Want my Sex Back.

🥶Would you take a dip in the icy water at -53C (127.4°F)? In Yakutia there were dozens of brave to dive into the font on the night of the Orthodox holiday, known as Epiphany — the baptism of Jesus Christ. People took the plunge in the icy waters not only in Yakutia, but all over Russia. This is a folk custom: ‘[In this] unification, there’s the greatness of Russia, because nowhere else do they have such traditions,’ said one of those who took part in the bathing. Some believe that a dip in the blessed water will cleanse the soul, while others follow the custom 'to be healthy’. Believers say it unites Orthodox Christians and lifts the spirit.
The custom of Epiphany bathing exists in Ukraine, too. But this year they banned it in some regions, and called it ‘outrageous’. Now in Ukraine there is a persecution of Orthodox Christians, which is subordinate to the Moscow Patriarchate. Schismatics are ravaging and burning churches and beating clergy and parishioners.
Why does Ukraine want to destroy the Russian Orthodox Church? Find out in Ukraine: The Road to Schism.

🌱Concerns about marijuana marketing aimed at children are growing in the U.S., the Associated Press reports.
‘If you go through a cannabis dispensary right now, it’s absurd how youth oriented a lot of the products are,’ said Katherine Keyes, a professor of epidemiology at Columbia University. She believes that a nice package and a fine name (e.g. ‘loud lemon’ or ‘peach dream’) can easily entice young people to partake in the products.
21 American states, including New York, have already allowed recreational use of cannabis. And other states’ residents are calling on the authorities to do the same. According to Pew Research Center, 88% of U.S. adults say either that marijuana should be legal for medical and recreational use or for medical use only.
But experts warn that regardless of the type of use, marijuana can cause addiction and lead to the worst consequences. Liv, a subject of our documentary, experienced them herself. Listen to her story in our excerpt and watch the full film Marijuana Victims: Colorado to know more on the issue.

This sea lion managed to be saved. He couldn't get into the water — the ice hole froze while the animal was on the ice.
A local resident found the marine mammal and called rescuers. The sea lion was taken on a sledge to the shoreline of the sea and released. See how the rescue operation took place in our video.
Sea lions are listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation. There are only three rookeries of these animals on the planet. Two of them are located on Sakhalin and Kamchatka.
These animals often die after getting entangled in plastic garbage. Volunteers collect waste on the shore so that fewer animals end up in these dangerous traps. Watch our documentary 'The Seal Empire under threat' about the topic.

Bloody Sunday. On January 19, 2014, Kiev’s Maidan stopped being a peaceful protest as far-right militants began to break through to the government district. They threw stones and Molotov cocktails at Berkut special forces fighters.
The scene was one of total chaos as police buses were burning, tires were smoking, and smoke bombs were exploding. Teams of masked Maidan activists moved in groups to the monument to Lobanovsky, where containers with incendiary mixtures had been hidden beforehand. Law enforcement officials later said that they could have been stopped very quickly. But the order never came.
The film Maidan: Road to War (2022) features the chronicles of those bloody events. And the excerpt in our post is about how the riots began.

Cold water is provided to the apartments for a couple of hours once every few days. But it doesn’t reach the upper floors: there is not enough pressure. Taking a bath is a forgotten luxury for the people of Donetsk - the last time people had access to hot water was last spring. They hope to have enough water for cooking and washing. For doing the laundry they collect rain water.
It is much more difficult for the medics. For example, the hemodialysis unit at the local hospital needs 30 tons of water a day. The doctors simply cannot work without it.
The people in Donbass are trying to survive this water blockade. Amid the shelling, wells are being drilled in the yards of private houses and businesses. Water supplies are contained in cisterns. Some people, like schoolboy Elnur with his father, distributes drinking water to residents with his old car completely free of charge. Learn more about them in our new film Water: Donetsk's Lifeline.

Polar bear kills mom and son in Alaska. A 24-year-old mom and her 1-year-old son were on the way to the health clinic when a polar bear emerged and mauled them. It was the first fatal bear attack in Alaska in the last 30 years. The woman failed to notice the predator because of a severe snowstorm. The horrific scene was witnessed by several people, who tried to help, but didn’t manage. Scientists assume the most often cause for such attacks is due to hunger - they see humans as prey.
In the Chukotka region of Russia, bears also wander into residential areas, but there’re special patrols there working to reduce encounters between humans and wild animals. Tatyana Minenko is a leader of one of these patrols. The woman often meets polar bears, but manages the situation being equipped only with a long, pointed stick and a flare gun.
Watch our video with Tatyana to know more about the wildlife. For an even deeper immersion into nature, watch Freed to Be Wild.

Look at the graffiti that artists left on the streets of European and American cities. On social media, they present themselves as a creative group from Poland. Judging by the geotags, new installations have appeared on the streets of London, New York, and Madrid. According to these street artists, Instagram* deletes their posts.
Many question the authenticity of the graffiti, claiming that the authors use special programs to depict their drawings on the streets of world capitals. But the existence of murals by one street artist from Naples, Yorit, is beyond doubt. In Another Italy (2022) journalists show his giant mural with a portrait of Dostoevsky, where a crying Donetsk child can be seen in the Russian writer's pupil.

How the USSR officially turned away from sex
After the 1917 October Revolution, the nascent Soviet state was swept by a wave of “free love”. Authorities completely stopped interfering in the private lives of citizens. Men and women were given equal rights, society stopped condemning non-marital relationships and, furthermore, the USSR became the first country to legalize abortion and provide it free of charge.
But, by the late 1920s, this trend began to wane and it eventually turned into its exact opposite.
Multiple affairs began to be considered immoral and were condemned. Divorce and adultery were publicly denounced at public meetings and on cinema screens. To get a divorce, people had to confide their personal problems to their fellow workers and convince a court that their marriage should be dissolved.
