Russian sailors prevent hijacking of Panamanian ship near the Gulf of Guinea
The anti-submarine ship Vice-Admiral Kulakov received a distress signal from the Lucia, a Panamanian-flagged container ship sailing from Togo to Cameroon, the Russian MoD said.
A helicopter carrying a marine corps unit was dispatched to defend the vessel from the pirates who were approaching it by fast boat.
The marines then boarded the ship as the high-speed boat retreated towards the African coast line.

Unvaxxed Tennis Players Could be Allowed to Compete at Australian Open, leaked email says
Unvaccinated tennis players could be allowed to travel to Melbourne and play at the Australian Open according to an email sent to WTA players that appears to contradict previous federal and state government advice. (Fox News)
The email suggests unvaccinated players would likely be granted a visa but must do two weeks in isolation in a quarantine hotel.
The apparent backflip on border entry requirements comes after last week federal and state govt. leaders said players who hadn't received two doses of a recognized Covid-19 vaccine were unlikely to get visas for the January tournament.

Cambridge University to slap “trigger warnings” on classic children’s books for ‘offensive’ depictions of slavery and racism
The top university is reportedly flagging “harmful content relating to slavery, colonialism and racism,” with more than 10,000 books apparently under review, the Daily Mail reported.
The project, reportedly paid for by a £80,633 [$111,000] grant will allegedly expose authors who have been “offensive to historically enslaved, colonized or denigrated people.”
Authors who have already been flagged include:
▪️Dr. Seuss for “overt Blackface” and other cultural insensitivities.
▪️Laura Ingalls Wiler who wrote “Little House on the Prairie,” for “stereotypical depictions of Native Americans.”
▪️“Wonderful Wizard of Oz” author L. Frank Baum for “white supremacy” in his short story “Bandit Jim Crow.”
Where will George Orwell’s 1984 fit in this dystopian nightmare?

NASA Discovers Evidence of Planet Beyond our Galaxy (Reports)
Using NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory, signs of a planet transiting a star outside of the Milky Way galaxy may have been detected for the first time. (Independent)
The possible exoplanet candidate is in the spiral galaxy Messier 51 (M51), also called the Whirlpool Galaxy because of its distinctive profile.
However, scientists won’t be able to confirm the candidate really is the first planet outside of our galaxy, the main problem being it takes 70 years for the planet to cross in front of its binary partner again — meaning we won’t know for another 70 years at least.

NZ Expands Vaccine Mandates to almost HALF of ALL Workers
New Zealand has announced around 40% of its workforce will need to get jabbed, affecting thousands of company employees who have close contact with customers - including restaurants/bars, gyms and salons.
It marks an increase from the previous mandate of about 15% (for teachers & healthcare workers), as thousands now risk losing their job if they are not vaccinated against Covid-19.
PM Ardern said she didn't believe the new rules were an overreach of govt powers, and that the country was aiming for 90% of the population to be vaccinated.

"Gun to our Head:" Polish PM Warns EU Against Road to World War III
Poland has threatened Brussels that it could trigger "the third world war" if it withholds Warsaw funding in a dispute over democratic values within the bloc. Mateusz Morawiecki said we [Poland] will “defend our rights with any weapons which are at our disposal,” in an interview to FT.
Poland has been the biggest net recipient of EU funds - over 200 billion euros ($232 billion) since it joined the bloc in 2004. The rift comes from Poland opting to pursue independence when it comes to media freedoms and LGBTQ rights.
It's reported Poland could go against ambitious Green policies set out by the EU as its "weapon." Polish opposition has downplayed the threat of war as "hyperbole."

Iranian state TV has reported a cyberattack on gas stations across the country, which hackers used to cause outages in a govt system and post the Ayatollah’s hotline to drivers.

Oil Ministry officials have held an emergency meeting to solve the problem. As of yet no group has officially claimed credit for the attack.
