The supply of weapons to Ukraine by the US and NATO for attacks on Russian soil would lead to retaliatory use of more powerful weapons by Russia, Vyacheslav Volodin warned on Sunday.

"Supplies of offensive weapons to the Kiev regime would lead to a global disaster. If Washington and NATO countries send arms that will be used for attacks on peaceful cities or attempts at occupying our lands, a threat they have been making, this would provoke retaliatory measures with the use of more powerful weapons," Volodin wrote on his TG channel.

❗️RT France To Close After Accounts Frozen

RT’s French subsidiary will cease broadcasting after its accounts were frozen by the French treasury, its director, Xenia Fedorova, announced on Saturday. Paris claimed that it froze the funds in line with EU sanctions, which targeted RT’s parent company.

"After five years of harassment, the authorities in power have achieved their goal: the closure of RT France," Fedorova said in a statement shared on Twitter. Earlier this week, Fedorova said that she had received a letter from RT France’s bank indicating that the network’s funds had been frozen at the request of the French treasury, rendering it impossible for the outlet to pay its staff.

"Although RT France is not on the sanctions list and has the right to operate in France, such a decision practically paralyzes our activities,” she said at the time.

The French Finance Ministry told AFP that RT France’s assets had been frozen in compliance with the most recent EU sanctions package.

❗️FBI Finds More Classified Documents At Biden’s Residence

A team of federal investigators seized at least half a dozen additional classified documents and related handwritten notes following a thorough search of President Joe Biden’s residence in Wilmington, Delaware, which lasted about 13 hours on Friday, as part of an ongoing probe into suspected mishandling of top secret materials.

According to Biden’s personal lawyer, Bob Bauer, the federal investigators had been granted “full access to the president’s home” in Wilmington and their search “covered all working, living and storage spaces” of the residence.

The FBI search was conducted with consent of the president’s attorneys, according to CNN. A member of the White House counsel’s office, Richard Sauber, said that neither the president nor the first lady were at the residence at the time.

China Stocks Up On Russian Gold

China stepped up imports of gold from Russia in 2022, data released by the country’s customs agency on Saturday showed.

Last year, China bought a total of 6.6 tons of Russian gold, worth a record $386.9 million, including shipments in both unprocessed (3.7 tons) and semi-processed form (2.9 tons).
In December alone, gold shipments from Russia to China totaled 220.2 kilograms, worth $14.85 million.

Overall, Russian gold exports to the Asian nation soared by 67.3% in physical terms and by 63.3% in monetary terms from 2021.

However, so far Russia’s share in Chinese gold purchases remains small. The main supplier of gold to China is Switzerland, with sales in 2021 totaling over $34 billion. Rounding out the top five suppliers to China are Canada, South Africa, Australia, and Hong Kong.

Whistleblowers Expose Scale Of UK Migrant Child Trafficking — The Guardian

The UK Home Office has turned a blind eye to the disappearance of dozens of unaccompanied migrant children from a Sussex hotel it operates as a children’s home, according to an investigation by The Guardian published on Saturday. 

Of the 600 unaccompanied minors who have passed through the Home Office’s hotel in Brighton over the last 18 months, some 136 have been reported missing, and 79 of those are still unaccounted for, the news outlet found. A whistleblower for Home Office security contractor Mitie claimed the alleged kidnappings are bold, frequent, and not limited to the Brighton facility. 

“Children are literally being picked up from outside the building, disappearing and not being found,” the security guard told The Guardian, suggesting “traffickers” are responsible. A similar facility in Hythe, Kent allegedly lost 10% of its young charges every week.

US Oil Field Giant Takes Over Russia Business After Peers Exit — Reuters

The world’s largest oilfield firm SLB (formerly Schlumberger) has managed to boost its operations in Russia by cherry-picking service and equipment contracts from Western rivals that opted to leave the country due to the threat of Ukraine-related sanctions, Reuters reported, citing the company’s papers and people familiar with the issue.

In March, the oil field giant announced immediate plans to suspend new investment and technology deployment to its Russia operations due to “immense concern” over the “escalating conflict in Ukraine.”

Despite sharp criticism over SLB’s continued embrace of Russia, the company has expanded activity in the sanction-hit country and significantly increased its revenues over the past year.

EU Car Sales Collapse — Industry Body

The European Union passenger car market contracted by 4.6% last year to just 9.3 million units, which is the region’s lowest level since 1993, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) reported this week.

According to the report, the slump was mainly due to the impact of component shortages in the first half of the year. The market, however, improved from August to December, with new car registrations expanding by 12.8% in the last month of the year.

Overall, in 2022 only Germany managed to post growth (+1.1%) among the EU’s four largest markets. It was helped by the strong result in December, the ACEA said. The other three markets all performed worse than in 2021, with Italy posting the steepest decline (-9.7%), followed by France (-7.8%) and Spain (-5.4%).

Florida Defends Blocking Of ‘Woke’ High School Course

Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. has defended the state’s decision to block the teaching of a high school African American studies course that he described as indoctrination into critical race theory. This comes after Florida’s actions were criticized by the White House.

“Despite the lies from the Biden White House, Florida rejected an [advanced placement] course filled with Critical Race Theory and other obvious violations of Florida law,” Diaz Jr. tweeted on Saturday, adding that the state already “proudly” requires the teaching of African American history. “We do not accept woke indoctrination masquerading as education,” he wrote.

According to the commissioner, officials objected to the books proposed for the course, which include topics such as ‘Intersectionality and Activism’, ‘Black Queer Studies’, ‘The Reparations Movement’, and ‘Black Feminist Literary Thought.’
