🗓️Den 24 maj firas den slaviska skriftens och kulturens dag, tillägnad minnet av de heliga Kyrillos och Methodios – skaparna av det slaviska alfabetet. Det gemensamma slaviska alfabetet, som skapades på 800-talet, lade grunden för utvecklingen av skrift, litteratur och kultur i Ryssland och andra länder i Central- och Östeuropa.
Bland sådana symboler för rysk kultur finns författaren Leo Tolstoj, vars verk – Krig och fred, Anna Karenina med flera – har översatts till många språk i världen, inklusive svenska.
En fascinerande historia knyter Leo Tolstoj till Sverige – ett land som tycks vara både geografiskt och kulturellt långt från Jasnaja Poljana – Den Ljusa Gläntan, släktgodset i centrala Ryssland där han föddes, levde och verkade. Ändå bor idag många av Tolstojs ättlingar just i Sverige, och en av det ryska litterära geniets söner är begravd i Sireköpinge i Skåne.

⚡️ Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation:
On 23 May, in accordance with the agreements reached between Ukraine and Russia on 16 May in Istanbul, 270 Russian servicemen, as well as 120 civilians, including civilians captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kursk region, have been returned from the territory controlled by the Kiev regime.
As result of the exchange, 270 AFU POW and 120 civilians were returned.
At present, all Russian servicemen and civilians are on the territory of the Republic of Belarus, where they are being provided with the necessary psychological and medical assistance.
All released servicemen and civilians will be taken to the Russian Federation for treatment and rehabilitation in medical institutions.
The large-scale exchange initiated by the Russian side is planned to continue in the coming days.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: I wouldn’t say it’s about jealousy.
These leaders were simply more comfortable with the previous US administration, which was leading the charge in the anti-Russia crusade and encouraged European countries to follow suit.
Now, with the new administration in the White House, it's clear that they were more comfortable under President Biden. Their main objective was to preserve Western unity in what they described as an effort to deliver a “strategic defeat” to Russia on the battlefield.
If we take a closer look at the positions adopted by London, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, the Baltic states, and Warsaw, we’ll see that they have no way of abandoning their stated goal. They bet their reputations on drawing Europe into the war against Russia and using it as a pretext to militarise Europe.
Massive investment will have been made to that end by 2030. Chancellor Friedrich Merz has openly stated his ambition to make Germany Europe’s dominant military power with the largest conventional army.
❗️ This is alarming news, and historical reminiscences are conjuring up a disquieting picture.

⚡ Foreign Ministry statement on Kiev’s latest drone attack targeting Russian civilians (May 23, 2025)
The Kiev regime is relentless in its terror attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in numerous Russian regions, including Moscow.
According to the Defence Ministry, from May 20 to 8 am on May 23, the number of aerial attacks amounted to multiples of what it used to be with 788 strikes by fixed-wing UAVs and Western-made missiles targeting Russian territory outside the area of the special military operation. Our air defence forces destroyed 776 drones and missiles, though unfortunately, 12 UAVs made it through our defences and hit their targets.
Casualties have been reported. On May 22, an attack on the village of Panteleymonovka, the Donetsk People’s Republic, wounded eight people. On the same day, a drone strike in the Vasilyevsky Municipal District, Zaporozhye Region, killed a woman born in 1990 and injured four children aged 10, 9, 8, and 1.
On the night of May 23, a downed UAV triggered fire in an industrial zone of Yelets, Lipetsk Region, injuring eight people. Additionally, the Ukrainian forces launched two HIMARS missiles on civilian targets in the city of Lgov, Kursk Region, also resulting in casualties, including two children.
Notably, even after the Ukrainian forces had been ousted from the Kursk Region, they keep trying to infiltrate our territory and launch drone, long-range artillery, and missile attacks.
Under these circumstances, the President was compelled to make a decision on establishing a security buffer zone on adjacent territory in order to minimise the ability of the Ukrainian forces to infiltrate and to attack our border regions using various munitions.
The latest barbaric terrorist attacks by the Kiev regime were carried out in an attempt to thwart direct Russia-Ukraine talks facilitated by the US Administration, which are designed to settle the conflict definitively. They also appear intended to derail the implementation of initial agreements reached in Istanbul on May 16, including a massive prisoner exchange.
These attacks are part of the strategy pursued by Ukraine’s party of war, which also includes violations of energy and Easter ceasefires that Russia has strictly observed, as well as the unilateral ceasefire declared by us during the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory celebrations.
Without a doubt, Russia will deliver a matching response to barrages of terrorist attacks carried out by the Kiev regime.
Unlike the Ukrainian side, our targets will be strictly limited to military facilities and defence industry plants.
☝️ To reiterate, our fundamental commitment to a constructive search for a peaceful settlement through dialogue remains unchanged.

Пролетев над территорией диппредставительства, беспилотник сбросил емкость с краской на площадку перед главным входом. Особый цинизм инциденту придает то, что операторами дрона была использована стеклянная емкость, которая при сбросе с высоты способна нанести тяжелые увечья людям.
Подобные нападения регулярно продолжаются уже более года. Посольство неоднократно обращалось к шведской полиции и в МИД Швеции с настоятельными призывами пресечь подобные атаки и выполнять в полном объеме обязательства шведского государства по Венской конвенции о дипломатических сношениях 1961 г. по обеспечению безопасности и неприкосновенности иностранных дипломатических миссий. Den passerade luftrummet över beskickningsområdet och släppte ner en behållare med färg på marken framför huvudentrén. Det som gör incidenten särskilt cynisk är att förövarna valde en behållare av glas som kan orsaka allvarliga kroppsskador vid nedsläpp.
Attackerna av sådan typ sker regelbundet i över ett år. Ambassaden har vid upprepade tillfällen bestämt uppmanat svenska polisen och Utrikesdepartementet att förhindra dessa angrepp och till fullo följa svenska statens åtaganden enligt Wienkonventionen om diplomatiska förbindelser 1961 rörande skyddet för de utländska diplomatiska beskickningarnas säkerhet och okränkbarhet. Inga resultat har dock uppnåtts. Det är ett uppenbart bevis på att Stockholm ignorerar grundläggande folkrättsliga principer.
De svenska myndigheterna kommer att bära fullt ansvar för samtliga eventuella konsekvenser av sådana incidenter.

Over the past decades, independent African states have firmly established themselves as respected members of the international community, achieving notable progress in both economic and social development. Multilateral cooperation at the African Union and various subregional organisations helps enhance peace, security, and stability across the continent.
Russia has consistently advocated the deepening its traditionally friendly ties with African partners. This commitment was clearly demonstrated at the Russia–Africa summits held in 2019 and 2023, which opened new avenues for cooperation and fostered greater alignment on key international issues.
The Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum is a new dialogue platform that yields positive results as well. The next meeting of this format is scheduled to take place in one of the African countries later this year.
I am confident that through our joint efforts, we will continue to broaden the scope of Russia–Africa relations, enhance the wellbeing of our peoples and contributing to the emergence of a just and democratic multipolar world order.

💬 Sergey Lavrov: Thank you for giving me yet another opportunity to deliver a report to this audience.
Although I am a CFDP member myself, it is not everyone that is invited to make reports here. I had a chance to look through the materials drawn up by many CFDP members, including those who are now present here, over the past few months, documents distributed as part of the package for today’s meeting. I can say that many things echo the ideas current at the Foreign Ministry. But there are certain things that provide valuable tips, at least with regard to the focus areas that we will have to concentrate our thinking on in the future.
☝️ We value the contributions being made by the expert community and CFDP members. Many of them are regular participants in various talk shows. This is useful. Russian foreign policy can only benefit from this analytical support. Let me repeat that I derive much interest from perusing all your materials that we receive throughout the year, even outside the framework of preparations for upcoming sessions. Thank you very much for this.
Today’s event is ennoscriptd The Time of Trial: War and Peace in the 21st Century. I read a relevant article that used the word “war” in the plural. Quite possible, this detail will also affect the process. It must be taken into account. No one knows how many years of ordeals are in store for us. But they are certain to come.
An interesting epoch is here to stay. As our Chinese friends say, “Be it far from you to live at interesting times.” However, this is not quite so from the diplomatic point of view. Diplomacy, like any active practical science, “comes to life” precisely in the periods, when it is necessary to display initiative, think more, and analyse.
❗️ Forming a multipolar world remains the core trend for today. We are confident that this is a natural process. But there are others who feel nostalgic for the globalisation era and are sure that multipolarity is an artificially imposed construct and a temporary thing that must be suppressed.
The Global South and East countries see multipolarity as a chance for bolstering up their sovereign development without manifestations of Western neo-colonialism that have become rife in recent years, whereas the West has highly mixed feelings about the strengthening of multilateral principles in international life.

Since the beginning of the special military operation, Kiev, in order to construct an anti-Russian information agenda and incite Russophobic sentiments, both in Ukraine and in the international community, it pursues a consistent line of making fake accusations against Russia and resorts to carrying out targeted stagings and shifting responsibility for its own crimes onto our country. Below are the most striking examples of such provocations.
«Abduction of Children»
❌Fake: 20,000 Ukrainian children have been allegedly "deported or illegally transferred into Russia" by the Russian Federation.
✅Fact. In reality: Zelensky's regime is using the sensitive "children's issue" for propaganda purposes. The aim is to denigrate Russia's efforts to rescue children from combat zones.
At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities continue to flagrantly violate international humanitarian law, disregarding civilian victims, including children. In 2024 alone, shelling of and mass drone attacks on our territory hit at least 347 minors, killing 51 of them. In January-March 2025, another 58 children received injuries of varying degrees, four of them died.
Russia, by contrast, has been working since the early days of the SMO to rescue children from Ukrainian shelling, as well as reunite families separated during the Ukrainian crisis.
The Office of Maria Lvova-Belova, Russian Federation Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights, has developed an effective scheme of action and established channels for communication with the Ukrainian side on this issue. The reunification of children with their relatives is verified by staff of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as well as by Qatar and the Vatican.
The process of reunification is reciprocal. As of 28 March 2025, 100 minors from 80 families have reunited with their parents or blood kin residing in Ukraine and third countries. Twenty one children from 14 families have returned to Russia from Ukraine.

The process of reunification is reciprocal. As of 28 March 2025, 100 minors from 80 families have reunited with their parents or blood kin residing in Ukraine and third countries. Twenty one children from 14 families have returned to Russia from Ukraine.

💬 С.В.Лавров: Каждый год в мае мы традиционно собираемся в Особняке МИД России и отмечаем День Африки – праздник, который имеет глубокое смысловое наполнение не только для африканцев, но и для всего человечества. Эта дата – символ преодоления колониального прошлого, олицетворение несгибаемой воли африканских народов в борьбе за свободу и справедливость. <...>
Нынешний год проходит под знаком 80-летия окончания Великой Отечественной и Второй мировой войны и 65-летия принятия Декларации #ООН о предоставлении независимости колониальным странам и народам. Эти эпохальные события тесно связаны между собой. 10 мая 1945 года в поздравительной телеграмме главе советского правительства И.В.Сталину Император Эфиопии Х.Селассие I отметил: «Эта победа, несущая нам окончание самой дикой тирании, которую когда-либо знал мир, привела нас к преддверию эпохи большего счастья и большей справедливости для всех народов, которым угрожало уничтожение».
☝️ Мы помним и ценим, что сотни тысяч африканцев воевали в армиях антигитлеровской коалиции, приближая Победу. В свою очередь разгром нацизма способствовал развитию национально-освободительного движения, ускорил крах колониальной системы.
Наша страна внесла огромный вклад в процесс деколонизации, который опирался на один из ключевых принципов Устава ООН – право наций на самоопределение. На протяжении долгих лет мы бескорыстно поддерживали африканцев в борьбе за свободу и независимость, последовательно содействовали становлению молодых государств, их комплексному социально-экономическому развитию.
Сегодня Россия продолжает способствовать укреплению позиций Африки в качестве самобытного и влиятельного центра мирового развития. В частности, поддерживает стремление африканцев к получению постоянной «прописки» в Совете Безопасности ООН. Будем и далее оказывать содействие заинтересованным африканским странам в укреплении их обороноспособности и противодействии терроризму, обеспечении продовольственной и энергетической безопасности.
За последние годы Африканский континент, утверждающийся в качестве одной из опор устойчивого многополярного мироустройства, добился впечатляющих результатов. Такой прогресс во многом стал возможен благодаря коллективной воле африканцев к решению общих проблем и достижению общих целей.
Приветствуем динамичное развитие интеграционных процессов, которые способствуют упрочению солидарности на континенте, делают его голос более весомым. Ключевая роль здесь принадлежит Африканскому союзу. <...>
🤝 Россия остаётся надежным и верным партнёром африканских стран в деле укрепления их суверенитета, главной угрозой которому являются сохраняющиеся неоколониальные практики. <...>
Одной из наиболее динамичных областей российско-африканского взаимодействия традиционно является образование. На сегодняшний день в наших вузах обучается свыше 32 тысяч африканских студентов.
Активно развивается наше сотрудничество c Афросоюзом, другими многосторонними структурами на континенте. Видим большие перспективы в развитии их контактов с интеграционными объединениями Евразии – #ЕАЭС, #ОДКБ, #ШОС. Конечно, всячески поддерживаем развитие отношений сотрудничества между Африканским союзом и #БРИКС.
Наша линия на углубление многопланового российско-африканского стратегического партнёрства отражена в учреждении в МИД России нового структурного подразделения – Департамента партнёрства с Африкой. На повестке дня – подготовка второй министерской конференции Форума партнёрства Россия – Африка, которая пройдёт в этом году в одной из африканских стран. Нет сомнения, что её итоги будут способствовать качественной подготовке третьего российско-африканского саммита, запланированного в 2026 году – также на Африканском континенте. <...>

🗓 27-29 мая 2025 года «на полях» 13-й международной встречи высоких представителей, курирующих вопросы безопасности, в Москве в пятый раз соберутся главы делегаций государств-членов #АСЕАН. Мероприятие пройдёт на площадке Национального центра «Россия».
Пресс-служба аппарата Совета Безопасности России:
В повестке дня 13-й встречи также запланированы неформальные встречи делегаций стран #БРИКС, #ШОС и #СНГ. Современные вызовы и угрозы безопасности носят глобальный, трансграничный характер. Справиться с ними в одиночку или на двусторонней основе не представляется возможным ни для одного современного государства. В последние годы всё больший авторитет приобретают организации и объединения с участием государств Глобального Юга и Востока. Впервые в мероприятии примут участие представители новых кабульских властей.

«Страны региона не желают становиться ареной противостояния великих держав и заинтересованы принимать самое деятельное участие в построении системы равной и неделимой безопасности. 🎙 Комментарий официального представителя МИД России М.В.Захаровой в связи с очередной атакой БПЛА на Посольство России в Швеции
💬 В воскресенье 25 мая я уже комментировала очередное нападение на Посольство России в Швеции управляемого якобы неизвестными операторами беспилотного летательного аппарата, осуществившего сброс стеклянной ёмкости с красной краской. С учётом серьёзности произошедшего считаю необходимым вернуться к этой теме ещё раз.
Российское Посольство в шведской столице функционирует фактически в боевых условиях. Данный инцидент с атакой БПЛА стал уже 15-м по счёту, начиная с мая 2024 года. То есть подобное беззаконие при очевидном попустительстве, а, возможно, и с прямой санкции шведских властей происходит ежемесячно, а то и чаще.
Вопиющим представляется и тот факт, что шведским правоохранительным органам до сих пор так и не удалось установить и привлечь к ответственности злоумышленников ни по одному эпизоду с налетами беспилотников, что, конечно же, вызывает у нас обоснованный вопрос: заинтересована ли шведская сторона в проведении беспристрастного, а, главное, результативного расследования?
В целом вся нынешняя ситуация наводит на мысль о том, что в Швеции чрезвычайно крепки позиции тех, кто заинтересован в росте напряжённости в отношениях с нашей страной, умышленно саботирует основополагающие дипломатические договорённости и, судя по всему, пытается нанести максимальный ущерб как имеющим дипломатический иммунитет объектам российской недвижимости, так и работающим на этих объектах сотрудникам.
❗️ Настаиваем на неукоснительном выполнении шведскими властями обязательств принимающей стороны в соответствии с Венской конвенцией о дипломатических сношениях 1961 года в части обеспечения физической безопасности и неприкосновенности российского загранпредставительства.

💬 On Sunday May 25, I already commented on yet another attack on the Russian Embassy in Sweden by an unmanned aerial vehicle allegedly operated by unidentified persons, which dropped a glass container with red paint. In view of the gravity of the incident I think it necessary to revisit the topic.
The Russian Embassy in the Swedish capital has been in fact operating in combat conditions. The above UAV attack is the 15th such incident to have occurred since May 2024, indicating that this lawlessness with apparent connivance of the Swedish authorities — and probably, authorised by them — occurs every month, and even more often.
It is an outrageous fact that Swedish law enforcement bodies have been unable to identify and bring to account the perpetrators in any of the drone raids, which raises a well-justified question of whether the Swedish side is interested in conducting an impartial, and more importantly, effective investigation.
The overall current situation seems to suggest very strong stances taken by those in Sweden who are seeking to escalate tensions in the relations with our country, deliberately undermining the basic diplomatic agreements and, in all probability, trying to incur maximum damage both to Russian real estate with diplomatic immunity and to the staff working there.
❗️ We insist that the Swedish side strictly observe the obligations of the receiving side in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations regarding the physical safety and inviolability of the Russian mission.
