Important things and changes in Spanish life coming as early as May 🇪🇸
May 1 is a Labor Day weekend.
May 2 is celebrated as Madrid Day. The date of the celebration relates to the anniversary of the May 2, 1808 rebellion against French troops.
Schools will be closed and there will be activities in the streets with music, dancing and theater.
May 7 is Mother’s Day, which is celebrated on the first Sunday in May. On this day it is customary to thank mothers and make small pleasant gifts and spend the day with the family.
The pilots of the Spanish airline Air Europa will hold a 4-day strike at the beginning of May (1,2,4 and 5). It will involve from 620 to 640 pilots at all Spanish airports, where Air Europa is based. Hundreds of flights are likely to be cancelled or delayed. Passengers whose flights are cancelled will be transferred to another flight on the same day.
On May 16, judges and prosecutors will go on strike. They believe that the justice system is not being resourced, with judges and prosecutors heavily burdened, affecting both the quality and speed of judicial response and the health of workers.
We recently wrote about the new housing law. It should go into effect at the end of May (around the 28th) if it gets the green light.
There will also be a municipal election on May 28.
Good news about the social security system. There will be a single national phone number to distribute appointments throughout Spain, which will replace the existing provincial numbers. There will be twice as many employees answering the phone. It will be possible to make an appointment in 28 days instead of 7 days.

Shall we flee the city?
Just for one day. At least to another city. For the loud «yes» and «finally» today a selection of towns within a radius of less than 100 km from the center of Barcelona. There are medieval towns, towns at the foot of the mountain, gardens, and castles.
Four sites and activities available.
Mura
There's an 11th century castle built on top of a hill with a breathtaking view of the surrounding area.
Walk through the old town, the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park and see the Romanesque church of Santa Maria.
Monistrol de Montserrat
Visit the Monistrol de Montserrat. It is located on the top of a mountain and has a basilica and a museum with paintings by Picasso and Dali.
Take the Santa Cova cable car to the Hermitage.
Take the walking trail through Mount Montserrat.
Go to the Cercle Artístic de Monistrol museum, located in an 18th century manor house.
Arbúcies
Go to the Parque Natural del Montseny.
And to the river Riera d'Arbúcies. You can swim here and walk along the hiking trails.
Take a walk through the old town.
On the way back stop by the Marimurtra Botanical Gardens, 32 kilometers from Arbúsies. It has not only plants, but also a cool view of the Mediterranean Sea.
Sant Martí Sarroca
See the church of San Martí, built in the 12th century.
Go to the Foix Natural Park.
Visit the castle of Sant Martí Sarroca.

Tuesday News 📅
Yesterday was the last day that the observation deck of the Turo de la Rovira, also known as «El Carmel Bunker,» was open at night. Thousands of tourists come here every year to party and bring their own alcohol. So now there will be no sunrise here. The site will be open from 9 to 19:30.
Yesterday, there was a demonstration in Barcelona, which was attended by over 2,000 people. The participants demanded an increase in wages and to stop the decline in purchasing power.
Madrid plans to turn into a center of big data and artificial intelligence. Now the region is developing 14 projects in the field of technology, cloud services and cybersecurity, and the world’s technology giants are opening branches here. This means there will be more job openings, and the speed of «digital connections» will increase, and it will be easier for tech companies to go through the «bureaucracy» stage and get the necessary permits.

Let's talk about the lady who checked her couch, suitcase, and valise in her luggage and took all her favourite clothes to the vacation 🧳
1) Which airline agreed to do this?
2) How much did it cost the lady?
3) And how did she not lose her mind?
Statistically speaking, excess baggage fees have increased significantly in recent years. French airlines in 2019 would have charged 55€ for it, and this year it's already 75€.
To avoid worrying about luggage security, exceeding the norms of several airlines and not dream of 5-handedness, you can use a special service and send your luggage in advance. We came across a mention of this service from The Local, then we couldn't get past it.
We all read it, counted it, admired the opportunity to make our lives easier, and now tell you about it 👇🏻
The service is called Send My Bag. Here is a list of destinations to and from which they send luggage. There is a separate section for students.
For example, we calculated the cost of sending luggage from Spain to France. At the standard rate, the bags will take 3-4 working days to arrive. For the luggage up to 20 kg you have to pay $44, up to 30 kg — $55, and if the weight is more, then also $55, but for each kg +2,50$.
You can send bicycles, skis, boxes, bags and suitcases. You can't send anything in plastic bags and boxes, or anything with aerosols. The list of prohibited items depends on the country.
👀 Used this service or something similar? Or maybe sent luggage by a shipping company?

Our name has changed, but our intention to make everything here convenient, useful and interesting hasn't disappeared. So do not be frightened, it's still us!
Better take the opportunity to tell us about yourself, leave a wish or share the pain of Barcelona life in the comments🏖

The best pizza in Europe was a pizza from Barcelona ⚡️
No, the Italians didn't participate. They were judged in a separate ranking. The guys from the international guide 50 Top Pizza tasted and decided who had the tastiest dough.
First place went to Sartoria Panatieri. In second place was Bæs Restaurant in Copenhagen, and third place went to 50 Kalò in London. «Pizza of the Year» is called «Salsa de tomates cherry asados, mozzarella y hollandesa de albahaca».
Also in the list of top ten was a pizza from Madrid. It's made at Fratelli Figurato.

It's Saturday, which means it's time for food content 🥗
Researchers researched, dug into the data and found out what kind of food is most often ordered in home delivery in different regions of the country.
According to GastroEspaña ratings and Glovo data, Spain is a land of croquettes and omelets, with some specific differences in the autonomous communities. Andalusians, for example, are very fond of serranito (a warm stuffed sandwich) and ensaladilla rusa.
🥯 Last year, Andalusians ordered more than 80,000 serranitos at home. Most of them were ordered in Seville and Algeciras. The favorite among restaurants is the family restaurant Hermanos Morales in Seville.
🥗 The second most popular dish in Andalusia is the enzaladilla russa. Last year it was ordered over 57,000 servings, 66% more than the previous year. It is most loved in Huelva and Seville. They order it at the Fonda de María Mandao restaurant.
🥘 The third favorite food is salmorejo, a cold cream soup made of tomatoes and bread. It has overtaken gazpacho, with 14,000 servings ordered at Glovo. It is especially loved in Málaga, Córdoba and Aguadulza.
🍞Sweet eaters from Andalusia are ordering torrija — sweet bread toast — for the second year. Last year, Glovo delivered 1,600 torrija.
And the final one by region:
• Madrid, Aragón, Catalonia and the Canary Islands had croquettes and potato omelet.
• In Valencia they had croquettes and paella.
• In Asturias and Castile-Leone, the most popular dish was cachopo (as well as croquettes in Asturias and black pudding in Castile-Leone), and in Cantabria, rabas (calamari in breading) and tortilla (thin flatbread).
👀 You can tell us about your favorite foods and the places where they are best cooked in the comments.

Oh, where is that so beautiful? 👀
It's in the library. It was designed by SUMA Arquitectura, and it's the third largest library in Barcelona.
It is named after Gabriel García Márquez, is located in the La Verneda neighborhood and specializes in Latin American literature. It has lots of light, comfortable areas for reading and working, and terraces outside and inside. Worth a walk around and at least come in to see it.
