5 corners of Barcelona that tourists don't get to, but that's just for now. Catch the moments, get there first

Sant Genis dels Agudells
A green neighborhood next to the Serra de Collserola Natural Park. Perfect to walk around and gawk at the monuments.

Tamarita Gardens
An oasis of greenery and tranquility at the top of Barcelona, generally a public garden around a former industrialist's residence: stone and wrought iron fence, classic statues, fountains.

Torre Baro
One of the city's crowd-free neighborhoods. One of the neighborhood's calling cards is Torre Baro Castle, which was supposed to be a hotel, but the project never materialized.

La carretera de les Aigües
A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle, enjoy the views, take a walk, and do some sports.

Parc de Creueta del Coll
A park with a large lake that was created from an abandoned quarry during the 1992 Summer Olympics. There are playgrounds for kids and you can bring your dogs here.

Big Wednesday Herald 🇪🇸

Spain has been ranked second in the «Best Country for Foreigners to Live in 2023» ranking. The study was conducted by Internations Expat Insider 2023, rating countries on weather, culture, cuisine and quality of life. First place went to Mexico.

The historic store in the center of the city has dared to do what others do not. Queviures Múrria has been in business for over 100 years, with tons of people coming in every day to look at everything, take pictures and then leave. So they decided to charge for «just looking», as much as 5€. Although the management doesn't charge anyone, it stopped the flow of people. Now people just look in the windows.

Easyjet canceled 1700 summer flights because of problems with air traffic control. Most of them were due to leave London's Gatwick Airport and travel to European airports. The cancellation will affect 180,000 passengers, but 95% of them have already been rebooked on other flights and the rest will be offered refunds.

We survived the hottest day on Earth, are experiencing a hot summer right now, and no cooler weather is in sight yet. Did you know that there are more than 200 places in the city where you can hide from the heat? 💨

That's 30 more than last year, there are such islands in 10 districts of the city. These are facilities of various formats: public spaces (indoor and outdoor), libraries, museums and gardens. They don't change the format for summer, just that it can be cooler than outside, you can go in there and catch your breath.

💦 There are also more than 1,700 drinking water fountains in the city. You can check their locations and look for the nearest one on the Fuentes BCN app.

🪀 You can also find shelter from the heat in covered playgrounds. There are 183 of them in Barcelona, most of them covered. The ones that are not yet shaded will be in the near future. This is being handled by bithabitat, which is looking for innovative solutions to reduce heat and make public spaces more comfortable.

🗺 The map of cold places itself will be right here.

How are you experiencing the heat?

Where is it so beautiful?

It's at The Miners Coffee. This specialty coffee shop, originally opened in Prague in 2019, recently had its own branch in Barcelona as well. The guys together with the designers decided to turn an empty space in the heart of Poblenou into a beautiful and quiet café.

The interior has a concept: to convey the craftsmanship and subtlety of the art of coffee production. And to create an honest and simple space that radiates serenity. The guys seem to have succeeded.

Time for Tuesday's brief topicalities ⚡️

2.5 million m² of offices in Madrid and Barcelona could be turned into residential spaces. This would help the housing shortage and boost prices in the office real estate market, which is currently oversaturated.

Renfe launched a new train route between Barcelona and Lyon on July 13 and will launch a train between Madrid and Marseille on July 28. Tickets are already available on the website.

The country is preparing for a third heat wave, although it's been less than a month since the last one. 40 degree heatwaves during the day will return, with nighttime temperatures not dropping below 25 degrees in some places.

Thursday's news 🇪🇸

Spain's Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, one of the country's most popular pilgrimage towns, plans to introduce a tourist tax that will affect all foreigners, regardless of their country of origin.

Spain is considering banning short-haul flights to combat climate change, following the example of France.

Starting August 1, the maximum speed limit (from 50 km/h to 30 km/h) will change in 33 city districts near schools. The rule will only apply when classes are in session or during events. At the same time, on weekends and at night, the maximum speed will again be 50 km/h.

Airalo is the world's first eSIM card store, offering travelers access to over 200 eSIM cards worldwide

In Spain, a 1 GB, 7-day validity card will cost you $4.50, a 5 GB, 30-day validity card will cost $11.50. There are six tariffs in total, with the highest being 20 GB and a month for $26.

Seems like a very useful thing to have. You won't have to search for wifi, roaming out of the mountains in the Alps, or buy expensive and slow internet just to call a cab or download a letter from the post office.

Here's a list of devices that support eSim. There's a website, and there are apps on iOS and Android.

Share other useful apps and services if you know of any.

Let's tell you about this interesting project

Mise En Scène — a store with unique things, modern brands and classic ones. Rather not even a store, but a boutique with treasures at a price 2 times lower. Here you can find a Loewe bag or a pair of interesting Nike sneakers. Adding to the charm is the fact that it's a family business run by cousins Mikaela and Ines. They believe that vintage fashion will beat fast-fashion, and they're stoked for «democratic luxury» and sustainability.

Fashionistas and hunters of rare vintage will love it here. Things here can not only be bought but also sold. If you know similar cool projects, share in the comments.
