Some Spanish News ⚡️

Winter returns to Spain this week: with cold winds, drastic temperature changes and snow.

Starting in 2024, passengers at Spanish airports will no longer have to throw away liquids and take out their laptops. That's because the El Prat and Barajas airports in Madrid will be the first to get new 3D scanners that will scan the contents of luggage in detail.

Spanish police have discovered in Barcelona 100-year-old drawings by Dali that were stolen in a burglary last year. Police arrested three brothers in their 50s. They specifically targeted houses with works of art, coin collections and other valuable items.

Today all news are about transport. So happy transportation news day ⚡️

🚲 «Bicycles... What do you think about it?» — Spanish companies ask employees. All because of the initiative «En bici al trabajo» («To work by bicycle»), which encourages the use of a bicycle instead of a car. The initiative is already working in several European countries, and additional payments are being considered for companies whose employees ride bicycles. A French employee can earn up to 800 euros a year this way.

🚗 Car sales in Spain are up 51%. The country leads Europe in car sales. In January alone, 760,041 new cars were bought in the EU.

🚞 Railway operator Renfe is celebrating the anniversary of the route Madrid > Barcelona with an unusual sale. Fifteen years of operation and 15 euros per ticket. The sale will last until February 25, with tickets valid for travel from March 15.

The Lonely Planet editors were asked, «which route to take in Spain so you can see the best of it?» 🚀

There are two such routes. Today we will tell you about one of them. The first route: for a calm northern trip.

🌳 The green north coast is not the most popular destination so it’s not crowded and has great beaches.

Plan:
> Start with a couple of days in elegant Oviedo, the capital of Asturias. There are Doromanian churches, markets, an art museum, and delicious food.
Eat at Tierra Astur. It has inexpensive lunches and award-winning cider.
And Gloria was opened by Michelin-starred brothers.

> After Oviedo, hop on the train to Arriondas (on the picture). 90 minutes and you’re in a town at the foot of the mountains. And then to the beach, take the train to Ribadesella, the pearl of the Asturian coast.

Then go to the fishing town of San Vicente de la Barquera. From here you can go to Santander, where the Centro Botín art gallery designed by Renzo Piano is located.

One bright yellow house in Barcelona catches the eye and stands out sharply from its neighbors 👀

It was designed by the architectural firm Mach. The adjoining buildings helped provide privacy, making the front and rear facades of all three floors glass. On the ground is a heavy plinth, on it is a light metal structure, open to the landscape and the sun, and the yellow color perfectly harmonizes with the greenery and the blue sky.

Where to go on vacation this year?

Lanzarote is for lovers of dramatic landscapes. There are volcanoes, lava fields, cliffs, whitewashed houses, palm groves and beaches. The island has been declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

Mallorca is a classic vacation destination. The island has it all: a lively city, beaches, the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range and port towns.

Tenerife is an island in the Canary archipelago with mesmerizing landscapes. This island is home to Mount Teide, a dormant volcano and the highest peak in Spain. Some beaches are covered in black sand.

Menorca — Fewer people come here than to neighboring Mallorca and Ibiza. Stay in a rustic farmhouse or escape the routine in a boutique hotel. People come here for the peace: the coast with its pine trees, sandy beaches and coves.

Marbella is a resort on the coast with mountains and 27-kilometer coastline. There are beautiful beaches and golf courses. The coast has the «Golden Mile» with a marina and superyachts.
