Where to go on vacation this year?

Lanzarote is for lovers of dramatic landscapes. There are volcanoes, lava fields, cliffs, whitewashed houses, palm groves and beaches. The island has been declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

Mallorca is a classic vacation destination. The island has it all: a lively city, beaches, the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range and port towns.

Tenerife is an island in the Canary archipelago with mesmerizing landscapes. This island is home to Mount Teide, a dormant volcano and the highest peak in Spain. Some beaches are covered in black sand.

Menorca — Fewer people come here than to neighboring Mallorca and Ibiza. Stay in a rustic farmhouse or escape the routine in a boutique hotel. People come here for the peace: the coast with its pine trees, sandy beaches and coves.

Marbella is a resort on the coast with mountains and 27-kilometer coastline. There are beautiful beaches and golf courses. The coast has the «Golden Mile» with a marina and superyachts.

Portugal and Ireland have closed the«golden visa» programs and Spain could be next. One of the main reasons for the closures is the housing crisis.

Analyzed by the Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain, the regular readers in their report are those who say they read books at least once a week (52% of the population). A significant percentage of Spaniards (35.2%) never or hardly ever read (reading etiquettes and announcements at the bus stop were not counted).

The Lonely Planet editors were asked, «which route to take in Spain so you can see the best of it?» 🚀 There are two such routes. Today we will tell you about one of them. The first route: for a calm northern trip. 🌳 The green north coast is not the most…
The second route for those who have always wanted to visit Andalusia ⚡️

Route 2: south of Seville combines the rhythm of the capital with the Costa de la Luz in the province of Cadiz.

3 days in Seville is enough to see the royal alcázar, flamenco and try all the tapas (in La Brunilda, Esvala, Las Teresas).
Stay at the converted 19th-century mansion Hotel 1800 Casa.
> From Seville for a night or two in lively Jerez de la Frontera, the capital of sherry and flamenco. It takes an hour to get there from the Seville train station.
> From Jerez, take the cercanías, media distancia and Alvia trains to Cadiz, Europe's oldest city with a lively historic center located on a windswept promontory. Cadiz has some fabulous beaches and famous tapas at Taberna La Sorpresa.
> But the region's most fabulous beaches are to the southeast of the city, along the Costa de la Luz to Tarifa (pictured here). The trip by bus takes an hour or two. There's kitesurfing, white sand and delicious food.

Where to walk with a dog in Barcelona? 🐶

Barcelona is quite dog-friendly: they are allowed to enter some stores and restaurants, ride the subway during certain hours and even go to the beach. Dogs are allowed in parks all over the city, but here are the parks where it's not so crowded, where you can run and play.

Parc de l'Estació del Nord is a park with free dog walking areas, a small café, basketball courts and terraces. And a lot of free space!

Parc Joan Miró has palm trees, parrots, sand and is also dog friendly.

Parc de la Ciutadella is a park created in the late 1800s with a zoo, lake, walking paths and museums.

Parc del Guinardó is a municipal park laid out in 1910, with pine trees, flowering dalbergias, a forest and waterfalls.

Parc de l'Espanya Industrial is a park with lawns, trees, a lake and sculptures and a metal dragon slide. You can play sports and read a book on a bench here.

Parc de Can Dragó is a 12-hectare park with sports facilities, bicycle/pedestrian trails and sculptures. There's plenty others to play with and a water fountain.

Park de la Guineueta is a park with a monument to statesman Blas Infante, fountains and shady paths. Picnic tables are also available.

Poblenou Central Park designed by architect Jean Nouvel, this park has modern landscaping, swings, slides, bicycle parking and ping pong tables.

You can also go to the town beach. Llevant beach has a dog-friendly area, separated from the rest of the beach by fences so dogs can't get out.

Where to walk with a dog in Barcelona? 🐶 Barcelona is quite dog-friendly: they are allowed to enter some stores and restaurants, ride the subway during certain hours and even go to the beach. Dogs are allowed in parks all over the city, but here are the parks…
Now the rules of walking:
• Dogs must be on a leash in public places, except in special places for walking.
• The dog should not be left on the balcony or other small spaces for long periods of time.
• The dog must be cleaned, chipped and a muzzle must be worn on potentially dangerous dogs.
• One dog per person is allowed on the subway. It must have a chip, a muzzle and a short leash. You can't ride with a dog during rush hour.
• Left your dog without a leash in Barcelona? Prepare 2400€. More precisely:
> €100 to €300 for a walk without a leash.
> Up to €600 for a walk in a children's park.
> If the animal is deemed «dangerous», the fine will be €300 to €2,400.
> The rules and fines vary from municipality to municipality.

This December, the authorities will start charging stricter fines, and in September there will be 103 new places to walk without a leash in the city. And that's on top of the existing 116 zones. There are now more than 180,000 dogs living in Barcelona.

Barcelona is the city with the most expensive rent in the country, especially for young people. The average age of the person looking for a room has risen to 32 years.

The Canary Islands in January managed to earn 1.7 billion euros. All thanks to 1.2 million tourists: each of them spends on average 1,416 euros, spends 4-7 nights here, and the islands themselves account for 29% of all tourist trips.

Only in February the number of unemployed rose by 0.1%. They increased by 2,618 people, the total number of people out of work in the country has reached 2.91 million.

Second part of the selection with this year’s vacation destinations 🪩

Ibiza has a rowdy reputation, but there’s another quiet side to the island. People come here for the magnetism and the sunsets. Here one walks the cobblestone streets, goes to the village of Santa Gertrudis with its boutiques, bars and restaurants.

Madrid is the capital and is often preferred to Barcelona. There are no beaches, but there are sights, wide boulevards, parks and cultural life. In the Prado Museum, admire works by Spanish masters, including Velázquez and Goya.

Gran Canaria — Mountains, black lava and snow-white beaches, and bustling nightlife (go to Playa del Inglés for it) and views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Seville — There’s an old town and the former Jewish quarter of Barrio de Santa Cruz with a huge Gothic cathedral. You can go to Seville’s famous flamenco shows and sit in the local bar El Comercio.

Tuesday News 📅

Do you know where they make the best chocolate in Spain? In Malaga! It's made by Mayte Sánchez, who opened her little artisan store in 2019 and has since become famous. Her chocolate cafe has already won various awards at the International Chocolate Awards, the world's most important competition.

Drivers over 65 will have to renew their license more often, every 5 years instead of 10. This is to improve road safety and increase the frequency of medical checks. They will include general health checks, disease interviews and psychotechnical assessments (hand-eye coordination and speed anticipation).

In Spain, a married couple was sentenced to four years in prison for stealing wine. The story took place in 2021 at a luxury hotel in the Spanish town of Caceres, where the couple was vacationing. One of the bottles stolen from the wine cellar was worth 350,000 euros, and they stole a total of 45 bottles worth $1.7 million. It took some time to catch the drunken Bonnie and Clyde: they escaped first and were only caught nine months later on the Croatian-Montenegrin border. The fate of the wine remains a mystery.

Do you know what happens if you don't fasten your four-legged friends in the car? Or do it wrong 🐶🐱

1. In an accident, your pet will fly into the front of the car and most likely be seriously injured.
2. And you'll pay a fine.

To avoid this:
◾️Use two-point seat belts, consider a carrier bag (especially for a cat) or cage that will need to be secured firmly in the cabin or left on the floor.
◾️Also pet is not allowed on the front seat, even in a carrier. There will be a fine of up to 500 euros. And if the animal sits on the back seat without protection, the fine will be 80 to 200 euros. Or if you use inappropriate protection.

Look at this bad boy in the car.
