“I think a global consensus is forming that it is necessary to regulate the media. When the internet emerged, there was a certain idea that it should be free, open and unregulated, a slightly libertarian vision that unfortunately time has not confirmed its possibility”, he said. “Nowadays, you need to regulate from an economic point of view for fair taxation, to protect copyright, to prevent abuse of economic power. You need to regulate in terms of privacy protection, these platforms store a lot of personal data from everyone and therefore you need to have control over the use of that data”, said Barroso.
