🇧🇷🤝🇻🇪🚩— Brazilian government sends minister to secret meeting in order to strengthen relations with Venezuela; Celso Amorim was received by the dictator of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas.
Venezuelan state broadcaster VTV broadcast images of the meeting and stressed that the visit aims to “accentuate diplomatic relations between the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Federative Republic of Brazil.”
Relations between Brazil and the chavista regime, suspended since 2019, were resumed with the return of Lula to the presidency on January 1.
Under Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil did not recognize the legitimacy of Maduro as president on the precept of dictatorial attitudes; now, in 2023, under Lula, this issue is no longer ruled and trade relations between the countries will return.
According to sources in Miraflores, the meetings may involve the return of Venezuelan refugees who are in Rondonia, to provide dependencies to their country of origin.
