At the moment, Russia has managed to stall Ukrainian advances for some time, but not completely stop them. Main advantages were mine fields and helicopter supremacy, which Russia seems to lose overtime. But even with mines and helicopters, it is the infantry who does most of the job, which slowly seems to disappear, and it becomes a big problem. Russia will not be able to conduct any new mobilisation until Putin gets re-elected, as it could severely damage his reputation and people's will to fight.

The question is, will Gerasimov surrender Tokmak, I say no. The city may not be as strategically important like Melitopol, but it holds symbolic value of being a fort city. Symbolically speaking, giving up any territory in south will damage reputation. As well, it will only create bigger problems in future, giving up significantly fortified positions for.. nothing I guess.

Some of you may compare it to Kharkiv offensive(s) last year, but the situation is completely different. When Ukraine managed to breakthrough and advance to Kupyansk, Russia understood it won't hold their ground, which is why they've "strategically relocated" behind the left bank of Oskol river, saving not as many troops and vehicles, but with a good number to organise defence before reinforcements of mobilised connoscripts could arrive to Luhansk oblast.

In this case, Russia, as everyone else, knew about upcoming Ukrainian offensive, and prepared to defend their positions. The more Russia stalls Ukrainian offensive by sacrificing good quality infantry, the bigger problems it will cause in future, if there won't be another mobilisation wave in two months. To stall the offensive, Russia sent their decently skilled VDV units from Siribryansky forest (Kreminna) to the southern front, in Verbove.

I won't be making any predictions.
