🧩 What is DEM Simulation?
DEM simulates how particles (like grains, rocks, powders, or tablets) move and interact with each other and with surfaces. It’s especially useful in industries like mining, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and civil engineering.

⚙️ How It Works
- Particles are modeled individually with properties like size, shape, mass, and stiffness.
- Forces are calculated between particles when they collide or come into contact — including friction, cohesion, and restitution.
- Newton’s laws of motion are applied to update each particle’s position and velocity over time.
- Time-stepping algorithms (like Verlet or leapfrog) simulate the system’s evolution.

Glory hole spillway | CFD simulation
SIMPAL GROUP

The glory hole spillway is a type of spillway used in dams or reservoirs to release excess water. It consists of a vertical, cylindrical or funnel-shaped structure with a large circular opening at the top. When water levels rise above the desired capacity, it flows over the dam and enters the glory hole spillway, which then channels the water downward and away from the dam. The name "glory hole" comes from the visual effect created when water plunges into the hole, often creating a spectacular display.

In this project, I used the VOF model to simulate the air-water flow inside it and estimated the massflow at the outlet.

راز دنباله‌های سفید پشت هواپیما؛ زیبایی علم در دل آسمان

احتمالاً بارها در آسمان خطوط سفید و ممتدی را دیده‌اید که پشت سر هواپیماها باقی می‌مانند. این پدیده در هوانوردی با نام Contrail (Condensation Trail) شناخته می‌شود و حاصل ترکیب فیزیک، ترمودینامیک و دینامیک سیالات در عمل است.

وقتی موتور جت در ارتفاعات بالا کار می‌کند، گازهای خروجی آن شامل بخار آب و ذرات ریز احتراق هستند. در این ارتفاع (معمولاً بالای ۸ تا ۱۲ کیلومتر)، دمای هوا می‌تواند تا منفی ۴۰ درجه سلسیوس پایین بیاید. این اختلاف دما باعث می‌شود بخار آب در مجاورت ذرات ریز دوده متراکم شود و به سرعت به کریستال‌های یخ تبدیل گردد. حاصل، همان رگه‌های سفید و ظریف است که ما از سطح زمین می‌بینیم.
