its really fun to be an "old fart millennial" and walk up to zoomers and say "what's up my rizzler"
the confusion and disgust on their faces is a treat

The internet is no longer being archived. It is now up to you to save things that you think are important. some tools:
archiving individual webpages:
ArchiveBox: preserve original html+css+js, save as a single html, or save in some other lossy format like screenshot, pdf, article text, etc. also supports social media post preservation, video/audio preservation (youtube/soundcloud/etc links), git repo cloning, and more.
WAIL: single GUI tool that integrates multiple utilities like openwayback. supports windows and mac.
wkhtmltopdf: save any webpage as a pdf, archived repo, might stop working or become vulnerable.
archiving specific content:
yt-dlp: cli tool to download video/audio. works on tens of thousands of sites. supports ever OS, lots of features like playlist downloading, accepting batch lists of links, audio only (for downloading music from youtube)
large scale archiving:
wikiteam: clone entire wiki style sites
wayback: waybackmachine, but you own the data.
tubearchivist: subscribe to channels or public playlists inside the tool and it will automatically download new content on a schedule. I use this for channels that are likely to be deleted for copyright/content violations. also has a browser extension that allows you to 1 click download or subscribe to a channel.
hydrusnetwork: booru scraper, mostly used by coomers to download porn from r34 but is great for more beneficial uses as well. it imports tags when downloading images and has a very robust tagging system allowing for tag aliases and subtags. optimal use: download articles/videos/images and tag them with year, relevant people and associated events. allows for you to rapidly search and confirm suspected gaslighting about events years after they have happened. also works as a public booru backend so you can publish all of your data.

webscrapbook: chromium browser extension to save pages to your computer locally or to a backend server somewhere. would integrate nicely with hydrus. works on all non-firefox based browsers (chrome, edge, brave, ddg, etc)

its incredible that microsoft devs have the ability to continue breathing despite having so little brain function. im pretty sure a slime mold can write better code if given the same amount of training.
has anyone studied this? its almost miraculous

little known fact: "chinese water torture" is actually mistranslated. the correct translation is "chinese windows torture", wherein war prisoners and criminals would be subjected to troubleshooting various windows problems. normally for most victims of this torture they would not be exposed to microsoft windows for more than 30 minutes at a time, although for the most serious offenses the victim would be subjected to nonstop windows exposure for up to 3 hours at a time.
the modern day western office worker is exposed to windows for an average of 8 hours a day with only one recovery time period lasting for one hour.

the united states government has for the past 20 years consistently vetoed UN resolutions that would classify exposure to microsoft windows as torture.
it was discovered in documents leaked by bradley manning that at guantanamo bay some prisoners there were exposed to microsoft windows for upwards of 6 hours per day in three increments lasting two hours. this information caused massive backlash globally with sanctions being placed against the united states by many other countries including european countries that were considered close allies.

stop thinking about the message and start thinking about the results.
personally i dont like light pollution because i want to see the stars. the issue of waste energy is important too but secondary to my goals.
both of us (the writer and I) want the same thing. I want less light being blasted into the sky and if i get what i want it means less energy waste, which is what you want. If you get what you want I still get what I want.
be pragmatic. the rest doesnt really matter.

15 years ago if i had a computer problem i could google the error message and find a solution on the first page of search results.
now its a complete swamp of AI trash but i think i found something worse
>problem: dragging emails out of outlook into another program causes outlook to hang
i start googling for this and come across an answers.microsoft.com page where someone has the same problem.
the OP is an indian badly describing the issue.
the first reply is another indian speaking in broken english. he reiterates the problem and instead of offering a solution only says "please be patient and wait for a reply"
the second reply is another indian not offering a solution, only telling the user how to use the feedback tool to report the problem to MS.
the thread is closed and there is no solution.
the only way this could be worse would be if someone mentioned SFC or to restart the computer.
every day i think i couldnt hate computers more and then i dig a little deeper

windows is such a complete dumpster fire that i should stop saying "install gentoo" and start saying "install windows"
honestly gentoo is probably easier to use than windows at this point
isnt paid software supposed to be premium and easier to use?
