im not sure that durov actually understands what a "free internet" is
telegram is a non-federated, not e2e encrypted, closed source platform.
there are arbitrary restrictions on the platform such as having a limit to the number of pinned chats (unless you subscribe), or being able to change chat colors outside of a limited palate (unless you subscribe) or having animated pfps (unless you subscribe)
its not federated. you cant run your own tg server
its not freely accessible. you cannot see posts if you do not have an account. you also cannot make an account without a phone number which is certainly tied to your identity in every developed nation.
The "open internet" was a collection of dudes who ran their own webpages, mail servers, and irc servers.
durov is being a total poser. he pretends to fight for an "open internet" while actively doing all of the things that are making the internet closed off.

fdroid now marks religious texts as "Promote porn and violence contents." under the anti-feature flag "this app contains content that should not be publicized or visible everywhere"
fdroid currently is not accepting new nsfw content into their repo and plan to remove all nsfw content in the future, including apparently all bible and quran apps.

they originally only marked bibles as nsfw while not marking other texts.

there was severe pushback where people argued that preferably neither should be banned, but if fdroid is going to do then then both should be.
fdroid chose to also nsfw mark quran apps as well.
