it should be illegal to change the terms of a contract without bilateral consent
thats kind of the point of a contract in the first place.
teampeak has finally, after years upon years of development, released the server software for teamspeak6
one of the first things i noticed was that there is an absolute max cap of 32 users per server and for that reason alone this is completely dead on arrival. I can understand having max cap for hosted servers to control bandwidth but to enforce max cap on a server which I own, which teamspeak pays ZERO DOLLARS FOR is completely unreasonable.
dead dove. honestly im surprised theyre still around let alone making major releases because their business model is completely abysmal.
"lets allow people to use the software in a way that is completely free for us and costs money for them and then make them pay more money."
its like they dont know that discord is free and has no server cap.

and no, you cannot just raise the cap.

here's what i've found so far regarding discord replacements:
stoat.chat: they are reverse engineering the discord api with the goal that you can use discord bots on stoat without having to change any of the code. you can self host your own server and make your own instances or make an instance on their server. the maintainers are extremely woke and when looking at the instance browser its all mostly lefty stuff. i dont say that because i think it should be avoided for political reasons, but instead because i expect a federation split in the future like with mastodon and fediverse.

rootapp: discord clone that has a lot of features and plugins for raid planning in MMOs no server software available so you'll be at their mercy when changes are made or pricing is introduced. i expect them to act exactly like discord when they get bigger (stripping features and putting them behind paywalls, banning speech they dont like, etc.)

also matrix, which has been "almost good" for a long time. i think its a little too security oriented for normies. ive noticed that if you try to encourage a normie to use "security tools" they get turned off. "signal app? isnt that used by like criminals or something? i dont have anything to hide."
i hate to say it but i dont think you'd get good adoption when trying to convince your friends to move to matrix/element. i hope im wrong

when you have the agency to solve your own problems, but not the will.
so i needed to get the ram on a computer up to a certain utilization to test something and the easiest way to do that is just open the cnn homepage on multiple browsers because their website is terribly inefficient and uses like half a gig or more of ram per page
and this is what i see when i go to the home page

i had to deal with a really frustrating issue this morning where a user was upgraded from adobe acrobat to acrobat pro, yet adobe kept saying "actually you dont have a pro license click here to buy one"
adobe has been enshittifying their software for years because they can make a lot of money by confusing users.
i think the companies that are making things shit for money have kind of lost the noscript. it feels like they are making things garbage "just because" and not for extra profit.
look at microsoft: if they were just bloating windows with sloppilot that would be normal enshittification, yet its not just that. for absolutely no reason they are constantly pushing out garbage updates that break recovery, break outlook, break anything constantly. none of this makes any money. in fact it just gives people more reason to hate MS and as public opinion diminishes there are less people willing to try new MS products (revenue loss) and less willing to pay for MS products (more revenue loss)
its almost like microsoft makes things shitty just for the love of the game and i dont respect that at all.

>Syncing your account to the Microsoft Cloud means that a copy of your email, calendar, and contacts will be synchronized between your email provider and Microsoft data centers. Having your mailbox data in the Microsoft Cloud lets you use the new features of the Outlook client (New Outlook for Windows, Outlook for iOS, Outlook for Android or Outlook for Mac) with your non-Microsoft account, just like with your Microsoft accounts.

thats actually not how email is supposed to work at all
microsoft is inventing new ways to steal your data.
