Markscan handles antipiracy for a lot of companies and submits nearly 1 million domains to be blacklisted on some days. Yes, 1 million domains in 24 hours.
Furthermore, based on leaks from Plex they plan to start offering pay per view video on demand in Febuary.

if you are considering setting up a media server I strongly recommend using Jellyfin or Emby instead. If you're using Plex it might be time to switch to one of the mentioned competitors
Years ago plex turned off the ability to suppress sending telemetry data which includes the original file name of files being played on Plex, allowing them to see what movies you have (and that you probably haven't paid for).

yooo jellyfin supports hardware encoding including NVENC which was the whole reason ive not switched yet
it also supports audiobooks which is a pain point for me in plex because its not supported in plex. its supports podcasts too unlike plex.
it also supports live tv, a feature plex removed years ago.

when i was a kid i had a lot of predictions for the future.
for instance when my teacher told me that i wouldnt be carrying around a calculator in my pocket i (an everyone else who wasnt my teacher) knew that laptops keep getting smaller and would eventually be pocket sized and would definitely have a calculator on it. it would probably replace the cell phones we were already carrying.
after seeing facebook kill myspace and friendster i expected that the internet would become a half dozen popular websites that would censor everyone's speech and the rest would be no man's land. i was right about that too.
what i didnt see coming was watching a few videos on youtube and suddenly for the next two weeks my algorithm is all screwed and offering me nothing interesting. that wouldnt be a problem if search on youtube actually worked but its completely worthless.

also update on jellyfin i got it installed but it feels like its just not there yet. media detection is not nearly as good as plex. if your movie's filename is "some.movie.noscript.(2008).[xvid].mkv" there is a zero percent chance it will match. im also pretty sure i have some mis matches that i have to hunt for and that will be a pain.
the bigger issue is playing media. regardless of if hardware transcoding is enabled it wont play any media that needs transcoding. it just sits there waiting to start the movie. the transcoder logs show no errors. the dashboard shows that it is transcoding successfully. i waited about 20 minutes and it managed to transcode an entire movie into buffer and never started playing. the only work around i know of is to use the desktop application that is built off of plexmediaplayer (another thing plex discontinued) and it plays fine but only because it doesnt need to transcode.

the videos not playing issue was either because my browser was blocking insecure content or blocking video autoplay. it was not a jellyfin issue.
