For most of North America’s, Europe’s, Russia’s, and temperate Asia’s population, yesterday (March 16th) was the day of equal day and nite, otherwise known as the Equilux. That means today, March 17th 2024 is the actual first day of Spring! Today, for those in northern latitudes there will be more light than nite and the light will continue to grow until June 21st—the longest day of the year.
The Equilux is the actual change in seasons (not the arbitrary March 21st equinox) and depends on your latitude and can never be later than March 18th anywhere in the northern hemisphere. The Persians knew this thousands of years ago and thus placed their first day of the year (Nowruz) at March 19th—which always denotes the latest day that can be the beginning of Spring in the northern hemisphere.
Happy Spring!! 🌷
